Forgot about The Juice! 6"2", Larry Csonka 6'3", John Riggins 6'2"

Dickerson is 6'3" and Allen is 6'2"
So I put in Earnie Davis and Jim Brown, but forgot Csonka? How, you might well ask? Especially since I really liked to see him play; a true FB if ever there was one.

But I think the point is made. I will say this: I think the reason people tend to go with shorter backs today is because the OLs are taller. One advantage to being 5'10" behind a bunch of guys in the 6'5" - 6'7" range is that you can hide better and pick your holes before you make your cut. This isn't conclusive, by any means; Sims at 6'3" operated behind one of the bigger OLs in Tech history (as the Clemson DC said at the time, "They block out the sun.") and was very effective. For me, give me a "big stud" at RB every day of the week.

Those are all players from a bygone era of football. Seeing RB's that are 6'2"+ in todays game is rare. The game has changed...

btw--he doesn't look the 5-9 as listed but he is a LOAD and quick as lightning .It is still hard to believe he was a pure WR in high school.
I remember reading he carried the ball some in high school which was one of the reasons they thought to try him out at running back.

By the way on the actual topic, I am super excited to see one more go for Jamal Haynes. We have had so many good backs over the years, but I love watching that 5'9 frame get low and drive multiple defenders over the line to gain on a 3rd or 4th down...he has delivered us so many cathartic, primal-scream-at-your-TV/the-field moments over the past 2 seasons. I think below is my favorite run of his career - very arguably a 4 (or even 7) point single man effort...hopefully it will be replaced by a new run this season!

Yes! My son and I still talk about that run. Stood up at the five, and then let the quads do the talking’.

Since the interwebs are all about baseless opinion and bad information, I'll plunge right in and predict Hosley will be the #2 back and will get several carries in every game that he is healthy as Key tries to establish the angle of a Power rushing attack.
I’m not willing to bet against Alexander, tbh. If he stays healthy, he’s already proven he can produce, and he just keeps making plays.

I’ve never understood the infatuation with RB height. Guy’s a tank with feet, runs like a wild man. What’s not to love? If he’s added muscle, watch the f out when he has the ball.
Barry Sanders and Ashton Jeanty were both 5’ 8”. And I agree with you 100%

Jacobs was bigger than any linebacker and as big as most of the edge rushers. Henry has linebacker size bust not as big as Jacobs while being quite a bit faster. I know DB's were never happy when either of them broke through the second level. Well Henry is still doing it and doesn't look like he has dropped off much.
Big RBs used to be more of a thing than today. There were many RBs over 6’0” back in the day. CPJ had a few.

Q Judkins - 6’0” 220
O Gordon - 6’1” 225
O Hampton - 6’0” 220
N Singleton - 6’0” 225

This is 4 of the top 6 RBs last season, and a fifth, Treyveon Henderson, is 5’11” tall.

1. Chad Alexander: 58 carries, 280 yards
2. Trelain Maddon: 17 carries, 67 yards
3. Malachite Hosley (FCS): 191 carries, 1192 yards
4. Jamal Haynes: 169 carries, 944 yards
5. Shane Marshal: 0 carries, 0 yards (just arrived)
6. JP Powell: 0 carries, 0 yards ( just arrived)

We are going to need a great deal more out of our run game. It appears we will have a 2 back rotation unless something drastic takes place in summer camp. Maybe a 3rd guy breaks into the rotation hopefully. We need the true threat of a run game to take the pressure off of Haynes King having to go out and beat you with his arm. He threw for 2,114 yards last year which is not prolific, however, he had a topnotch completion percentage of 72.9%.

We also do NOT need Haynes King carrying the football as much as he did last season. He rushed 125 times for 587 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2024. But he was also banged up real bad while rushing the football. I hope we have recruited some speed outside at the WR position that can take the top off of defenses and open up the deep throw game. Buster Faulkner needs to get way more creative than he has been in his playing.

How many yards/game is accounted for in the 2114yards ? Did he pass in 7 or 8 games?

I think we will go with 4, and more when someone inevitably gets banged up.
My guess:
Haynes
Holsey
Alexander
Maddox

Try and RS JP and Marshall. If we lose a couple of the above for any stretch, my guess is JP plays.
Not sure I agree with taking the top off with speed is the solution. Spring game we were big on the mid range passing game. That can be just as deadly. Kings passing stats were pretty good for a guy who couldn’t throw 10 yards for half the season.

Rivers and Patterson are unknowns (but as pj would say, come highly recommended)
Canion, Gatling and Taylor as well.

Really we have Rutherford and Stockton as guys that have produced for the team, and Seither coming off an acl. Everyone else is potential at this point.

The good news is that I think we do have some talent. Byrne looked good as did Harpring in the spring. Taylor and Gatling as well. Canion played some snaps last year but could fill that big body role we are missing, or Patterson.
