All I know right now is that, par for the GTAA, this was VERY POORLY HANDLED...
In what way? I understand the disappointment in CGC (reportedly) not being allowed to speak to the players, but I can also think of multiple legitimate reasons for escorting him to his car after giving him the official word. Do we even know for a fact that he asked to speak to the players but was told no?
What does that have to do with how GT handles the separation? Are you just trying to get more shots in? Who cares how poorly executed the coaching was at this point, your job as an administration is to make the separation as clean as possible and minimize the damage. We have managed to pour jet fuel on a three alarm dumpster fire.
Can you elaborate on the jet fuel that was poured? Perhaps I have missed something in the comments.

I think this is very encouraging. Like an idiot, I had assumed that something like a outside strategic review was going on as a regular procedure. On reflection, it is obvious that I'm giving the athletic department and the Hill far too much credit. Well, now we'll see. I have no doubt that Professor Neville can make things clear to the BoT and the administration in short order. Whether that will lead to solutions is another question.
If Neville is just another Gov't bureaucrat type looking at a bureaucratic operation I would not expect much, but we'll see. What's wrong at the AA I've seen all over GT, it's a culture there and has been for the last 30-40 years I've been told. I'm not expecting much out of this, may sound good but the proof will be in the pudding over some years of ups and downs. I truly, truly hope I'm wrong.

Interesting if no press conference for an in-season coach firing and the firing of the AD. Shocked if they don't hold one today or tomorrow. How do you not address your fans and say "we heard you, it wasn't working, we'll get things straightened out?" Weird, but very Georgia Tech.

They sent an email and put it on the website.

That doesn’t really seem like enough. I mean, when they hire a new coach, are they just going to put out a press release and put it on the website? Seems like there are a lot of questions that need answers. Typical Tech though.

Allowing the firing to fester for a full day while the players were getting news on social media from leaks within the GTAA. Cabrera should have handled this Sunday night and they should also have let CGC speak to the players to say goodbye. It's a bad look all around for us and I don't think we've seen the final ramifications from it yet.

I think it’s best that we don’t give Collins a farewell press conference. maybe a press conference with Key and Cabrera.

They want fan excitement for a new coach, so they would want a lot of attention at that time. So, they’d want a big press conference then.

Why do they want more attention for a firing?

You just fired not only your football coach, but your Athletic Director as well. That is a major shift in your athletic program. I think that at least deserves Cabrera and Neville getting up in front of the press and answering some questions. Just really surprised that they are going to have a press conference about this. Weird.

As much as we on this board melted down after the Ole Miss game wondering why Collins hadn’t been fired yet, that will pale in comparison to our angst over why we haven’t found a new AD and HC.

So the jet fuel could be characterized as "leaked" rather than "poured". ;)
While I agree that the leaked news is not a flattering look, had we moved up the firing timetable, it could have simply moved up the timing of the leaked news. I also suspect Cabrera had to do this "by the book" with the BoT and a rushed reaction to the leaked news is a lot to ask. Every major program has insiders and it's almost impossible to prevent early leaks. Again, we don't know how Collins behaved upon getting the news so assuming that he deserved a chance to speak to the players is speculative.
We may have some folks on here with HR backgrounds that can comment, but I know that it's common in the business world for dismissed employees to be given a box to pack up their desks and be escorted out of the building.

A little bit dramatic there. What ramifications? Collins may be upset? Who the heck cares. Some players are upset they didn’t get one last hug from their buddy? Who cares. The only ramifications is we finally got an inept person out of the program and many more will soon be joining him out the door.

Ha! Are you kidding? I was once laid off from my first job when with the tech bubble bust in 2001. I was called into office, then while the partner was giving me the talk to lay me off in his office, there were the goons that were cleaning out my space, confiscating the company laptop et al. Then I was escorted by security to the exit of the corporate building. No chance to say good byes, much less get anything off the laptop. It's a cold, brutal, and dehumanizing process.

So my advice to anyone is, always back up your stuff from the laptop!!!!

There are no real consequences for him.
People keep going on about him "losing his job." Yeah, and he gets 20 million dollars for it.
This isn't some dude down at the meat packing plant getting laid off.
So, I have compassion as a human for whatever emotions he has surrounding his failure as a coach. Otherwise, seems like winning the lottery to me.
I have to say, I’m inclined to agree.

I’ve known people who lost their job, and, as a direct result, lost their health care, their house, their pension, their health and eventually their marriage. He has enough money to keep himself off the streets while he mends whatever “feelings” he has. If you have to get fired this is the best way it can turn out.

Also, he is such a positive guy he should rebound ok.

I've seen it, too. Definitely dehumanizing.

But you shouldn't have stored all your naughty stuff on a work laptop.

Yeah, that sort of approach is likely a reaction to some former employees going "scorched earth" when they get the news of their layoff. In any case, best for the company not to take chances.

There had to be some reason for that. It appears Geoff didn't leave gracefully. Some gratitude for $20,000,000+.
We are all speculating at this point. I’m not prepared to say GTAA handled it poorly since I have zero info on what has been transpiring between Collins and Tech over the last week or so. We may never know.
