Can anybody remember what year it was when we dominated Georgia on the ground and the Georgia radio broadcaster was Larry Munson? I distinctly remember a phrase he uttered “they’ve got us like we’re on skates…“

That’s what I envision our offense looking like this year. In the fourth quarter we can just lean on teams and run at will.
I recall it was the CBS announcer referring specifically to the way Shaq Mason was pushing around the dwag All-American D-Lineman like he was on roller skates.

All true. Football is the ultimate team sport and guys like Jordan Allen are needed as much as the 6’5” 240 guy. Everyone will expect GT football to take a step back because we lost the media darling Haynes King. And I like King but every broadcast was focused on him and because folks are lazy they’ll think we’ll take a step back. The reality is our talent has continued to improve year to year across the board.

We have 3 QB’s that I believe could step in. Just a few years ago all we had was Sims who was rough in all aspects, We now have 3 system QB’s who only lack one thing - playing time.

I would have like to have kept Cannion but if we had to lose a skilled position thankfully it has usually been a WR which is easily replaceable (Brown, Singleton, Cannion). I would have cried if we lost Hosley. I also think our LB’s are the best group we’ve had in a long time. And the change in defensive staff can only help compared to the nonsense we had last year.

We have the best kicker in the country and brought in a good punter. Those things are huge due to the close games we always find ourselves in. I think people will be shocked at how we won’t miss much of a beat on offense. And quite honestly we have 2 NFL RB’s we can lean on until the QB gets comfortable.
Both lines look like they will be better than last year. That helps the QB immensely and opens up the field. Haynes King was very efficient, but the offense got a little predictable with him. I expect we will be more flexible with Berto and Justice in the backfield. It should be fun to watch.

as Zach Laskey kept gashing them for 7-8 yards every carry. It was a beautiful thing to watch!
Oh, how I wish Paul hadn't decided to use Zach to return punts. If he had had a redshirt senior year in 2015 Tech would have won -8 - 9 games. I always liked watching him play Ugag especially. It was obvious that he hated them really deeply and wanted to beat them as badly as he could.

I love that in a Tech player.

Just stoked on the day we don't have to speak on Laskey from 10 years ago to revel in our last win over the mutts.

Thought implications of Key saying he was pleased with Reed as the #2 center are interesting:

First, it seems to imply Key already views Ionata as being the clear #1 center. This, combined with his praise for Ionata implies that perhaps the biggest question mark on the OL is resolving.

Second, the fact that he is pleased with Reed as a #2 C implies not only do we have a guy who has won (or is winning) the position, but that we also are developing viable depth.

We may or may not be strong at center but it sounds like Key likes what's going on there.

Best ever Larry Munson call was the infamous "they are marching the ball down the field like we are Wake Forest or Maryland or somebody". I have to admit I enjoyed listening to Munson and spent many fall afternoons in SoGa dove fields with a transistor radio listening to Big Al Ciraldo and switching over on commercial breaks to listen to the Uga games (of course, hoping that they were losing!!!)
Munson was a local radio announcer in Nashville when I was growing up in high school in the early 60's. He did the Nashville Vols minor league baseball games and Vanderbilt basketball. He actually did the radio broadcast of my high school team winning the Tennessee high school basketball tournament on Vanderbilts court in 1964. Not sure exactly when he went over to the dark side in Athens.

Please , by game 8, no more "whoops that was a hi ball" followed up by a roller.

I'm glad that the staff finally found something to do with Reed. An experienced (he started at Princeton as a junior), talented OL that couldn't see the field? What was going on with that?

Glad the staff decided to give him a chance. Reed probably had something to do with that.

I like to read between the lines and it seems Key really likes this team. And he likes the new staff even more. He comes close to throwing certain people under the bus from last season.
I'm guessing he has staffers he can trust now, not sure that was the case previously. He knows his DC, he knows who George Godsey is as a person, he knows their weaknesses and understands Semore has some growing to do just as he himself is doing. I feel good about where it all is, now we get to watch something new in GTFB. Exciting for me personally.

The portal creates excitement and anticipatrion for all fan bases to add to it all.

Many what-ifs on that 2015 team. I wonder how different the late CPJ years and post-CPJ hire would look, if that had been a decent season.
