Wasn't Skov primarily a blocker? I expect CPJ will take advantage of that. I expect to see more passing from Thomas with Skov blocking for him. I can remember passes last year where Laskey or Days whiffed on their blocks and Thomas didn't have time to set his feet to hit an open receiver. Our pass protection was not that great. Lots of Thomas' completions were when he was being chased out of the pocket and Smelter circled back. Hopefully Skov allows Thomas more time in the pocket. Skov leading Thomas or Byerly into the hole on short yardage and goal lines should be better than last year. Skov without the ball hammering VT's and uga's DL will be enjoyable. We have lost some experience blocking at AB and gained quite a bit at BB. Adding physicality is never a bad thing in football.

He will come as advertised in the physical department. Stanford has a very physical style of play. It may be a little plodding, but it IS physical.

@Boomergump I don't think he has the burst that CPJ really likes in primary BB's. I could be wrong but I see a role for him but not the primary "starting" job.

CPJ had a lot of success at Navy with a guy named Eckel.

It will be interesting to see how PJ makes use of Skov's skill set. As has been said, we haven't had a B quite like him before, or at least from what we think we have in Skov. At a minimum, he would seem a great fit for short yardage, either with the ball or clearing the way for JT. Imagine Skov adding blocking to a run behind Freddie and Shamire.

I just checked their team stats and roster. All of the guys who got more carries and/or yards were either, too small to be a FB, a QB, or a WR. On their roster, the only guy presently listed as a FB, a senior btw, had no stats for last year. I don't want to pretend that I know the innerworkings of the Stanford program, but it appears that Skov was indeed the guy they went to when they needed the short yardage run or lead blocking. So, if there was another guy ahead of him in the FB role, I don't know who it would have been.

Yeah, you may be right. I mean, who wouldn't want a guy at BB who can "house it" from anywhere on the field. However, when I look back at all those NAVY teams, they sure did make good use out of guys who couldn't outrun the average MLB. It will be fun to watch play out.

I think Daniel Drummond is the closest thing to Skov we had in terms of physical comparison (though Drummond ended u moving to LB)...and David Sims. I think Sims is a good comparison for Skov in terms of playing style. Big body BB that's a little stiff, and won't break the big one. Skov will be a tough runner who will carry some defenders with him on the way to a tough 3-5 yards, and an occasional big gain because our OL will be nasty. I'm OK with that.

Yeah, they used Skov as a short yardage back, a running fullback, but Lee Ward was their starting fullback last year.

Yes, I agree. It'll be a sea change for him to get used to the mesh. But it can be done; see Dwyer.

I think you mean Lucas Cox. Mike Cox was a FB for Chan Gailey and he never played for CPJ. I do like the Cox comparison.

Yes, I did mean Lucas. Think what a running game we could have had with him at BB and Allen at AB! Pro teams couldn't have stopped that. Too bad he had to graduate and, you know, get on with his life.
