I heard from an equipment manager friend at the Spring camp that Clinton Lynch is going to be the next great A-Back for Tech. He said that he was really impressing the coaches and could break out next season.

Totally forgot about Lynch. He's another athlete similar to what Jarrett, Searcy, and Cottrell can do...and another reason I think CPJ has something schemed for the evolution of our offense the next few seasons. We're taking more dynamic type RBs/athletes at the AB spot as opposed to pure RBs. Remember, Lynch played WR at Norcross.

Not concerned.
Juene @ WR add Summers to stretch the field
Snoddy @ AB
Allan @ BB
and of course Jet at QB
with our Smash Mouth OLine I foresee pure Nastiness.

WR:
The Harland Howell, Ricky Jeune, Christian Philpott, Messick group has at least 2 NFL prospects there. I think Philpott is a surefire "next GT WR" with his size/speed combo...reminds me of Stephen Hill but with better hands. CP is a more natural receiver than Hill was. I think CPJ will have special plays to make use of CP's speed similar to what he did when Hill was a true freshmen. Jeune actually reminds me of a lot of Deandre Smelter...a possession type receiver who's not a burner, but just fast enough and someone who understands spacing and positioning to get to the ball. Messick looks the part...he can get behind the secondary, has "next GT WR" size, and his blocking is what got him on the field last year ahead of Jeune. The question with Messick is consistency...can he make the plays when the ball is thrown to him? I would not be surprised to see Messick become a lethal receiving threat...and it wouldn't surprise me to see Messick be a key reserve to role is to block. Don't know much about Howell outside of his HS tape. I think he redshirts in 2016, but he's another big body guy that has good speed.

AB:
LOVE this group. Probably the most dynamic group of ABs we've had since CPJ has been here. Unfortunately, most of them are young and inexperienced. I think at least 2 freshmen will have to play (I think it's Cottrell, and wouldn't surprise me to see Marcus Marshall or MLD move to AB for this season). I think CPJ has some big plans for our offense with how he's recruiting for the AB position, but it's something we'll probably see in 2016 due to youth and inexperience. As for 2015, I really like Searcy's athleticism. He's going to be a dynamic AB. That guy is just a pure athlete that can play a myriad of positions on both sides of the ball. Snoddy really came on last season, and hopefully he just picks up where he left off after the unfortunate injury. He's a homerun threat every time he touches the ball. I'm intrigued by Omahri Jarrett's skillset...but he may be more of a factor next year.

BB:
I really think either MLD or Marshall moves to AB for 2015 because both are more physically mature than any AB we have coming in. Both are gifted guys with the ball in their hands. I think Marcuse Allen will be a VERY good BB before it's all said and done. The time away from BB might have actually helped him. He just needs to get some more meat on his bones and get stronger...but his running in the Spring game gave us a tantalizing glimpse of what he can be at the position. Skov will be a bruiser, and he won't make those cuts to bounce to the outside...to me, he's like a stronger David Sims which is fine. Whoever between MLD or Marshall that doesn't move or redshirt will be #3 BB. Hopefully we won't need them until mop-up time. Due to injury, I think QFro redshirts in 2015. Dude will be a REALLY good BB before it's all said and done though...love his running style.
"QFro"............. love it! (y)

I honestly haven't watched Clinton's film since he was a last minute addition to our recruiting class a couple of classes ago, but WOW:

Dude has better receiving film than some of the WR guys we're recruiting this class. What a great slot receiver, AND shows the ability to tote the ball which he will do here more than catch the ball (or maybe not...hmmm...). Has pretty good speed, and will be a matchup nightmare for LBs.

OK...kinda amped up for the season to start. LOTS of intriguing guys to watch at the skill positions.

I came into the spring game expecting to see a mediocre, third string type B back. At least in the running part I saw a back with power and exceptional acceleration for a B. Boomer said after the game he was clueless at times about his assignments, but I'm gonna assume he will have those down much better by game time. He'd be one answer to your question.

The other obvious choice is Snoddy. If the break doesn't take anything away, he was showing huge talent the last few games before the injury.
You know, after the game, CPJ pretty much said the opposite about Allen, in terms of his assignments, so I was left wondering about what I thought I saw. I dunno. He had some good moments to be sure. From the north EZ it looked to me like he was confused when he didn't have the ball. I saw him get whacked a few times when he should have been delivering a blow. I'm not sure he was yet ready to anticipate where a lot of the trouble comes from at the BB position. You can tell when a guy is ready for contact. He didn't always look ready.

Our success this year on offense will depend on WR and BB IMO. Specifically Jeune and Skov. I'm not sold on Allen having that "it" factor. I think he'll bring solid production but I think the job will ultimately wind up in Skov's hands. All the incoming Freshmen are a year away.

I'm not concerned about the skill level of the guys that will be stepping up to fill the holes...I'm worried about their ability to get into the system quickly and perform on the field. We had very few missed pitches and fumbles compared to previous seasons. That was a big reason for our success.

If we come out playing like we did in the 1st half against VT it's going to be a long year.

Antonio Messick is a very tough blocker and I will not be surprised to see him earning lots of PT this season.

As far as B-Back, Skov has played close to the LOS his entire career at Stanford and now that he will be able to tote the rock at 239 lbs, I have pre-season visions of an inside game and possibly a Larry Csonka type of runner.

With the returning beef up front at GCG (Devine or Brown replacing Mason) the A and B back running plays can open huge holes for Justin Thomas and the A-Backs on the edge as the defense will have to stack more folks inside to prevent what I anticipate will be a consistent 4 to 5 yards by Skove smashing it between the guards. I can't wait to see this kid in the backfield as he must be real hungry for some carries after 4 years of nothing but blocking.

My predictions....

1) Searcy is going to be huge for us, call it a hunch, but the kid seems to have the "it" factor.

2) Marshall will gain meaningful minutes and be a contributor.

3) We will not have a drop off this year at BB...The combo of Skov/Allen will keep the train moving.

4) Ricky Jeune will be our next NFL WR, followed closely by Philpott

5) Our D will be top 4 in the ACC this year.

6) We will beat UGA

MARK IT DOWN and LET IT BE DONE

I wish I had your optimism!

1. I feel like Searcy has a lot of potential. I hope he shows it this year.

2. Agree with this. Really like this kid and we need him at a position that I feel like is one of our weakest. Which leads to...

3. Disagree big time here. I just don't see how we won't see a drop off here. Last year we relied on two 5th year seniors who had a combined 315 collegiate carries going into last year. This year, we have two guys that have a combined 14 collegiate carries. Yes, JT and the OL will help but Laskey and Days were awesome last year.

4. Hope you're right. He looks the part. Can't wait to see him on the field.

5. Disagree again here. We were next to last in YPP in the ACC last year and in the 100's in the country. Top 4 in the ACC would likely mean top 15-25 defense in the nation. I just don't see how we can make that big of a jump. Even if JHD is as good as everyone thinks he's going to be, can he elevate us from the 100's to top 25? That just seems crazy to me but I guess we'll see. I'll settle for middle of the pack, especially with how thin we are at DL.

6. I think this game is a toss up. We couldn't say that with a straight face last season. We have a really good chance to beat them for the first time in ATL since 1999. We need to win the next two seasons before the Eason kid comes into his own. I think he's going to be special and tough to beat.

Laskey was a true senior.

I think, though not as seasoned in years past, this backfield is as dynamic as we've seen under CPJ. With JeT and snoddys pure gas, and skov as the change up power runner, this season could be fun to witness.

IMO there is not much need to worry about these guys playing well within the system. The missed pitches has a lot to do with lack of experience at QB and having a QB that does not run the offense well. JT became a master of the offense by the end of the season and it seemed like as he became better, the offense and team as a whole grew better. With him at QB as a leader, I do not see it being difficult for the skill positions to be caught up to speed by week 3. Additionally, I think people are underestimating the experience we have at these positions. At BB, Marcus Allen has been in the system for 3 years now. He did play LB for most of his time here, but he does have some BB experience and he seemed to pick things up pretty well in the Spring according to the coaches. He says that he feels even more comfortable at BB now. Skov has 4 years of experience at Stanford. Of course, he will need to assimilate into the option offense, but it should not be hard for him to catch on quickly and blocking should definitely not be an issue for him. At AB, Snoddy of course has been here for 4 years now. Willis has been here for 3 years and seems to know what he is doing according to CPJ. Searcy and Lynch have both been here for a year and have received praise from CPJ. Obviously, after losing all the seniors, it will be important to build back the chemistry with JT during the Summer and Fall but as I mentioned, it should not be very difficult given the skill and leadership of JT. While gametime experience is important, getting reps in practice is arguably more important and we have plenty of guys who have been getting reps for years. I think the fans have raised question marks on these players because they haven't really seen them play. The coaches are the only ones who can see the big picture having been watching many of these players develop for years in practice, and they seem to think very highly of them.

Lots of hope but--On running backs--when has any first yr (even R-Fr) back in our OFF with PJ ever been a big impact player? It is so tough to learn this OFF and block unless you have done it A LOT. Many are thinking about their speed and moves and less about the fumbles and missed assignments.

does Orwin SMith as a sophomore count since he mainly returned kicks as a true freshman?

Dwyer was a true sophomore playing in CPJ's system for the first time in 2008...ACC POY and Offensive POY. That's probably the closest to your qualifications.

Roddy had a HUGE game against UGA, and was probably our best AB blocker even as a R-FR. Was the 3rd leading rusher in 2008 behind Nesbitt and Dwyer with 690 yards.
