If he was interested in actually winning games he would stay put. All the upside at Tech compared to LSU, Awebern (joke), Texas (i get), Ole Miss the opportunity to win this year not next. Good luck to him cause he is going to need it. He better fix the drops before finding a new home.

Guys,

I have to chime in regarding Singleton.

I'm glad to see Coach Key use NIL $'s for the lines (offensive and defensive) but lets not fool ourselves into thinking that this loss isn't a big deal.
I believe Robinson to the portal is more hurtful to the team but singleton is a player that occupies attention and allows others to get open with one on one coverage due to his speed.
I don't blame the kid at all for looking out for his future. You'd do the same thing as well.
Thank you for your two years on the flats. Felt the same about Gibbs to Bama.

This, unfortunately, is the new world of NIL and the portal.
In the end, football players need to be under contracts with salary caps, commitments, and possibly even bonuses, etc.
Win one for the ole gipper days are long gone!

It's now minor league football with no regulation or rules. Who would've ever imagined that the NFL would be a better product than college ball but let's just call it what it is and treat it for what it is ...

Farm system for the NFL

I said the same to my mutt buddies years ago in that you are nuts if you think Stetson and J. Davis give two rips about the dwags. It is ALL about getting paid now.
The secheat doesn't like this new world cause now they have to compete for dollars. Notice the top portal transfer last year, Caleb Downs, didn't go to uga as expected....He got purchased by OSU.

Welcome to minor league football

Good luck Eric Jr. Thanks for all your time here.

Crazy how some players are thrown bouquets for looking for a better situation for themselves, yet others are vilified. I wish we wished Singleton well like we have been wishing Pyron. I just don’t recall seeing many of these same posts over on that thread.
Zach wasn't going to play. He had been passed by Philo. Slightly different situations.

Why are soo many people speaking on behalf of me? How does anyone know what is would do? I loved Tech the second I set foot on campus as 7 yr old. I because I know me better than anyone on this board does wouldn't take a quick payday to go somewhere else. It's not like Tech isn't paying him vexayse they are. Please stop implying everyone else shares your value system.

Ummm okay.
Wasn't speaking to anyone outside of just saying that losing singleton will be felt as a loss.

I like the direction of the program and trust that the staff will replace Eric the best they can.

I've seen your posts on the baseball site and we likely agree on many things including the direction of the baseball program so I'm not sure why you gleaned that I was focused on your post.

Either way, Merry Christmas to you and your family

Pyron’s role was and would have been the same as it’s been and likely the same would have been for Singleton. Fact still remains we have wished him well for seeking out the best situation for him and have largely shunned Singleton. I just don’t recall seeing all of those “he’s easily replaceable” messages over there. And it’s not just on ZP’s thread, other players have gotten the gold carpet treatment for announcing they are leaving as well. Just wish we as fans had that same energy for all of our players, no matter what their role was. Either shun them all or wish them all well.

Zach could have transferred last year. Instead he stayed and finished his Tech degree. Knowing he would be the backup because he was a “student athlete”. Singleton has no Tech degree and has a list of cesspools as his top 5. That being said if Singleton invests the 2 million he will be set for a long time, but doubtful that occurs..

Ok, so here’s the deal. They are now professionals being paid to play a sport. They wanted this, and now they need to accept everything that goes with the territory. Is it fair? No. But life isn’t fair. I for one don’t really care what Eric Singleton or Zach Pyron thinks of me and I’m sure (and I really hope) they don’t care what I think of them. I’ve never met either of them, and our mutual thoughts of each other mean less than feelings we have about some other random people we engage with at a grocery store.

I am reminded of a news story I saw in the early 90s, around the time Dennis Scott announced he was leaving for the NBA draft. A reporter was at a college talking with students about the recent (at the time) glut of underclassmen basketball players leaving college for the NBA. The students were overwhelmingly against the players leaving. The reporter then asked the following series of questions. (Paraphrased as well as I can remember)

Question: What year are you in school?
Answer: Sophomore.
Question: What is your major?
Answer: Journalism.
Question: If the NYT called you today and offered you a guaranteed three year contract for $1 million per year to work for them, but you had to leave school immediately to go to work, would you leave?
Answer: Hell yeah.

No telling what he will do with extra money, but it is an opportunity to jump start his life. If he were to put half a million in an S&P fund, it would be worth around $8 million when he turns 50. For all of the clamor about loyalty to us fans, there can't be more than a handful of fans that would have given up such an opportunity to "stay loyal" to their friends. I would go even further. If I had a friend while at GT that had an opportunity to make an extra million dollars, but he felt like he would be betraying his friends by leaving, I would have told him that he was an idiot and should leave immediately for the opportunity.

He was our most productive receiver and our most physically gifted receiver...not sure what else you're looking for.

And he didn't quit on the team - he's simply moving to what he feels is a better opportunity. More money, more eyeballs, better competition, etc. It's extremely shortsighted to call it "quitting the team", especially when none of us know what's going on with his personal life.
It is still quitting on the team. No matter how much lipstick you put on the pig it’s still the pig. The only difference is you have a good excuse for quitting on your team.

So stop rooting for Haynes King then, he quit on his team. Stop rooting for EJ Lightsey, Jordan Van den Berg, and whatever receiver we get from the portal to replace Singleton if that’s your view.

It’s not quitting on your team, no matter how much you try to insinuate it is, it’s not.

Umm. The obvious answer to this is that the fans of the teams they left DID stop rooting for them.
