They may have re rated him, but on Rivals he was our lowest rated recruit with a 5.4 ranking. His only offer other than us was Western Kentucky. Josh Crawford brought him when came to coach the WRs.

I think the issue is that he likely will NOT be going pro. So maybe he’s trying to get the most money he can now?

This is not a surprise to me. I expected this. I expect any future GT player that is expected to get drafted to shop around. We will keep losing good proven players if we cant afford them. So will plenty of other schools.

There are ~250 picks per year in the draft. Each team as 11 players on the field. So ~22 starters (lets say 25). The (top 10 nil teams) * (25 starters per team) = 250 players. Basically if money talks chances are that every draftable player will be on a top 10 team. We are not top 10 in NIL. So do unless NIL drastically changes expect this to happen every year. I dont think we will have many players drafted in the future. This is just being realistic. Players like Gibbs and Singleton should not be blamed for leaving. I am happy they chose Tech initially. This is the system of today.

IMO a nice change would be to force the school that the NIL player transfers to, to pay the school he is leaving a fee. Otherwise its the Top 12 NIL teams competing for championships and the rest of us are just a stepping stone school.

I think Tech will have plenty of players drafted in the future. Key isn’t going to prioritize a WR. We have made it very clear with the last two classes and the players we are targeting in the portal are on the offensive line and front 7 on defense. I am perfectly fine with every dime going to those guys..

Plus maybe QBs in the future. We are fine now, but that’s an area that’s so critical to success along with the trenches.

Agree. We are very lucky with our current QB room. I also believe Keys focus on the state of Georgia is going to pay dividends. Most portal targets are also from Georgia. Guys get home sick and may take a few dollars less to play P4 football in their home state.

If this concept holds true then everyone other than the top 15 schools should throw in the towel. Being a farm team should have no appeal to our fans.

Being a farm team is was slowly being recognized by us a couple of years ago and its non appeal is beginning to take hold on what was our strong fandom and next, our wallets. Sad times ahead for some if something is not done about it real soon.

You really don’t follow the portal closely if you believe this. Every team, including UGA, under your definition is a farm team because everyone loses players. We lost a freakin dime a dozen wide receiver. He is easily replaced by a lot of guys from the portal. Yeah, I’d rather he stay but it’s a freaking wide reciever. Key is building this team the right way to win future games.

The portal losses could have been way worse but it shows that players are buying in when it’s a very few. The only one who I wish I could keep is Robinson on the OLine. The rest are easily replaced. The 2 things that this world will never have too few of is college wide receivers and college defensive backs.

I don't feel bad about losing anyone that is on the list of "having graduated" The lineman definitely checked that box. Once upon a time those guys would have just be grad transfers before the transfer portal was a thing.

Your making two assumptions that I don't think are true.

1. You assume the top 10 NIL schools can/will pay more for their 25th best player than a school like Tech can pay for their best player. They'll have more money, but not THAT much more money.

2. You assume guardrails won't be added / the system won't change. I expect players to end up considered as employees, with multi-year contracts, buyouts, etc.
