Shoutout to Synjyn

After watching the replay, Synjyn Days is a heck of a running back.

As well as Zach has played, and as nice as it would be for recruiting for a 1,000 yard rusher at the position, Synjyn Days should get at least 20 snaps a game at B-back. And a combined snap total between 30 and 40.

Hate that he is a senior. Here is to a good rest of the season!

Lol. He ran right past that unblocked DT like he was standing still. Also, notice Shaq taking on Perryman with no cut. Also, notice that OLB blitzes himself right out of the play. So many Miami defenders either out of position, clueless or blocked. Lovin' it.

If Days cuts left behind Shaq, he probably scores on a 50 yard jaunt.

I agree. On the drive that he got 2-3 carries at BB I thought he looked better than Laskey. He knows how to make a cut and Laskey hasn't really shown the ability to do that. If we could find a back that could get into the hole and make a cut and turn on the jets it would be nice. I miss Dwyer and Allen a lot.

Ball security has always been the issue with Days. I think in games where we can afford to gamble a bit more (perhaps this weekend) we could see more of Days at BBack. For all his perceived shortcomings, Laskey simply doesn't fumble.

I don't want to jinx the guy, but I can't ever remember Laskey fumbling the football, ever. Has it happened? It is one of those stats that is hugely important and maybe under-appreciated. With that said, I really like Days too.

I like both and would like to see more Days if we are running a lot of BB. But then again, I like fresher players who start off (before they get tired) in close to the same talent range.

I remember two fumbles from Days last year. In one he was hit so hard in the air I'm surprised he didn't get a crushed lung. I don't think he has a fumble problem anymore, but the coaches see a lot more of him in practice than any of us.

But I think the reason Laskey is the one getting most of the snaps is things work with him (they could with Days too) and why change up unless you need to. I recall in the VT game that Laskey asked to come out for a breather and Days went in. That was mighty big of Laskey and shows that he plays for the team.

Can't say it better. My perspective is that ZL is getting the job done admirably, and whether it is superstitious or just pragmatic, you don't switch horses midstream. That said - the fact that ZL is comfortable saying give me a breather and let SD get in and do some work is a big deal. It speaks to team, it speaks to good coaching and it speaks to SL understanding it's a long season and we have potential for something big this year.

In the play shown in the thread you see how quickly Days hit the hole, very quick first few steps for a big guy. I remember that looking very quick live as well.

I also thought he could have been used more, especially late when Miami's D had to be slap worn out. Nothing against ZL here at all. Have to love him working hard and winning the job.

Nothing against Synjyn but I love how Laskey clearly dominated the whole game and we still talk about how the backup BB should get more touches.

Laskey can be used in a variety of ways in the offense such as passing, running the BB speed option. We didn't run those plays last year with Sims. SD reminds me of DS.

It has nothing to do with not loving Laskey; it's bafflement that Synjyn is one of the better athletes on the team, yet has not been able to produce commensurate with his talent level. He reminds me of Damarius Bilbo, who wasted his football youth as a position nomad, but at least Bilbo found a home.

@dressedcheeseside I think he confuses being brought down by an ankle with not cutting. Folks, that's got to do with speed and we were all spoiled by Dwyer. A half step is all it takes, but in that half step there's a ton of natural ability we're talking about.

you very well could be the only person that thinks this. look at ZL's 1st 3 carries and tell us what you think? what I like most about ZL is he does his talking through his play. hands the ball to the ref and goes on about his business. No doubt he earned Perryman's respect after the game. No doubt running the ball and controlling the clock was the main (not only) reason we sit at 5-0.

He more than makes up for his lack of blazing top end speed with his quickness through the mesh and hole. He's probably the quickest Bback we've had at that part of the run.
