No way in hell do we lose by 21 and I promise you, as someone that bets a lot we won’t be a 21 pt underdog. If we are 3-0 I see it around 7-10 pts. If someone gave me 21 I’d bet 500$ right now.

If I was a Tech OL, I'd say to the Clemson DL across from me early in the game: Think you are going to play in the NFL? What are you going to use for knees?....then dive right at them. We can't let them intimidate us.

Bet him dinner. We’ll keep this one close, but Clem will get the breaks and it will cost us dearly. A big meal will ease the pain of what could have been if we could have gotten a break or 2 in that game. I don’t think we’ll get them and will fall either a FG or TD short.

A co-worker... Who happens to be a Clemson grad... Gave me a bet, to take. Up for win, is lunch.. But, more than that, pride.... He is taking Clemson and 21 points. Do you think that is a smart bet? I, in my support, of course took it. Now... I am wondering how smart, the bet was.

Its not a bad bet for the reasons that bwelbo listed. I will say that if their defensive line takes over the game to the point that we are going three and out more than 4 or 5 times, chances are you will lose the bet. If we can drive the ball and score a touchdown in each half along with a judicious turnover and a few strategic penalties then you have a very good chance of winning your bet . It just depends.

If I recall correctly, 2013 was not as bad as the score, but 2016 was worse than the score. I’m pretty sure 2016 was by far the most CPJs offense has been shut down by anyone.

I could be wrong but was 2013 the year we had the lead early in the fourth quarter and were driving for another score and had a fumble? After that, the game got out of control. It was either 2012 or 2013. It was the game that Orwin Smith and Robbie Godhigh both had big plays and we played well on offense but could not stop them. Sound familiar?

That was 2012. We were up early in the fourth and then Clemson broke loose and won by a bunch.

Thank you. Yep. Disappointing that we basically gave that game away with the fumble and later a safety. Boy howdy, the defense that year was pretty bad at times and then it got worse.

I think that's definitely a very fair bet. Dabo isn't one to run up the score, and we might score late to make it seem better than it is. 21 pt win is a nicely set over/under.

In terms of the game itself, I'll be surprised if we move ball at all except in random fits and starts. Maybe if this game was late October after the offense had a chance to really gel? We might could grind out a really low production game then. But this early it will just look like it has for the last several years: blown up before it gets started. I want to buy into our line being older and better, but I don't see a Shaq Mason on our line anywhere (a guy who would start and become a staple of an NFL offensive line).

Besides that we don't have a JT to throw, and if we did we don't have a Smelter or Waller with a knack for getting separation or going up and fighting for a contested ball.

The defense will look bad because they're gonna be on the field a lot, looking tired due to all of the 3 and outs. I'm not a sky-is-falling kind of guy, but against Clemson and their recruiting and Venables' coaching this is just reality.

Speaking of which -- fighting for a contested ball -- Clemson positions nobody is making much noise about are their WR slots. Earlier in August Swinney revealed his frustration with his 2017 receivers, guys who could run but were not willing to wade into traffic for the ball. That killed them against Alabama. This crop is supposed to be world class and no matter which QB plays they expect to throw the ball a lot better. Mix in the defense, three strong running backs and it could be a long day for us. But: we can and have played them tough so if our defense can compete and we don't have another meltdown, I think it can be a tremendous game. If Marshall could actually nail a couple of deep routes, well ...
