Man, if I watched this team as an outsider, I’d be excited about the show this team puts on. I wouldn’t be surprised to see us in the Mayo bowl.

The NYC bowls have poor stadiums for football, but there are fun things to do there.

There are two tiers, and Birmingham and Gasparilla are in the second tier. We’re almost certainly going in the first tier.

California is eligible for the Pac12 tie in bowls (Alamo, Independence, LA, Las Vegas, and Sun Bowls)

- Duke’s Mayo Bowl vs Big Ten
- Fenway Bowl vs American Athletic
- Holiday Bowl vs TBD (it used to be the Pac-12)
- Go Bowling Military Bowl vs American Athletic
- Pinstripe Bowl vs Big Ten
- Pop-Tarts Bowl vs Big 12
- ReliaQuest Bowl vs SEC (or Big Ten)
- TaxSlayer Gator Bowl vs SEC
- Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl vs TBD (it used to be the Pac-12)

Alternate Affiliations, if available
- Union Home Mortgage Gasparilla Bowl vs AAC or SEC
- Birmingham Bowl vs SEC or AAC
- SERVPRO First Responder Bowl vs SEC or AAC

There’s also the possibility of a swap to another bowl, but that’s unlikely for an upper tier team, and we’re upper tier.

If Louisville beats Kentucky, I think they go to the Gator. A lot depends on SMU, Clemson, and Miami.
We are tied for fourth with Louisville. Duke is playing Wake right now; Duke and Syracuse can move into a tie with us with wins.
There are ins and outs, but if things hold I HOPE SMU and Miami go to the playoffs, Clemson and Louisville divide the Gator and Pop-Tart bowl between them (though I’d like us to go to the Pop Tarts Bowl—it’s a fit for us).
That probably puts us with Mayo, Sun, Holiday, Military, ReliaQuest, or Pinstripe. ReliaQuest is Jan 1 in Tampa.
If we’re ever going to the Mayo bowl, this seems like the year.
Reliaquest sounds good! Two miles from my house.

They haven't selected Duke in 12 years. You think they have a deal in place already for a team losing to Wake Forest right now that will bring about 120 fans (** assumes there is no basketball game that day)
You really think they’re going to pass a 9-3 dook to pick a 7-5 GT?

Miami probably just pissed away a second playoff spot for the ACC.

If SMU wins next week, I bet Miami, Louisville, and Syracuse get the Gator, Pop Tart and Holiday bowls. Clemson could get Duke Mayo even though they are in Charlotte this week. They will still fill that stadium. Duke gets the Sun Bowl? Hopefully we can get an SEC team in Birmingham or Gasparilla.

Don’t forget Pinstripe.

Gasparilla two years in a row? I think we are Birmingham or Annapolis bound. I’d love Mayo, Pop Tart or Reliaquest bowls though. Just not Pinstripe or Fenway!

I don't think the ACC has access to the ReliaQuest any longer. If they do, I have no idea what the rules are to get in there.

I doubt we are headed to Annapolis. That seems like BC or Pittsburgh or UNC from all the projections. Pinstripe could happen but I'd prefer an SEC team in the South. We won't know until next Sunday because the SMU vs Clemson result might decide how many ACC teams go to the Playoffs or who goes where too.

From the other thread. My projection:

Clemson-Pop Tart
Duh U-Gator
Louisville-Sun
Syracuse-Pinstripe
Duke-Duke Mayo
The mighty Yellow Jackets-fun in the sun in San Diego

I'm still pulling for a Duke's Mayo Bowl for a MN-GT rematch on January 3. If it's any consolation some of my Gopher brethren would rather play a "lesser" 8-4 team in the bowl than a "good" 7-5 team (which is our record too). The context for the comment was the possible match-up for UM-GT again in this year's Mayo bowl. That is a compliment to GT if not obvious. We'll see.

The misery is not over. Those refs pretty much eliminated us from Charlotte, San Diego, Orlando and Jacksonville. We’re going to be relegated to some piss poor bowl in a ****ty location, on a ****ty date against some ****ty 6-6 or 7-5 BS P4 or some worthless 1aa team. I hope we don’t get dumped down to a baseball stadium in some scummy northeast city.
We’ll be relegated to those lower bowl tiers until we regularly win the games we should win and, opportunistically, hold leads when we get them in those games we should lose.

What games that we should have won did we lose? We lost to Syracuse (9-3), Louisville (8-4), ND (11-1), VT (6-6), and uga (10-2). ND and VT were with a hobbled backup QB. Other than VT, I’d say we won the games we should have and came damn close to winning one we “should” have.

We won’t be “relegated” to a lower tier bowl; we’ll be in Tier 1. But because we have a smaller, less likely to travel fanbase, we’re less attractive to the bowls, so we’ll be closer to last of the Tier 1 when they start their bowl participant draft.

Let's wait until next Sunday evening and find out for sure. I wont be surprised with a bad bowl game. However, I won't be surprised with a good bowl game either. GT has some buzz this year after the nationally televised games against FSU, Miami, and the mutts. I can see TV being interested in a GT vs Big10 or SEC team in a decent bowl game.
True. But the ACC pretty much decides who goes to the games. The bowls have some wishlists, but I have a feeling we get screwed.

I think ACC gets two if Clemson wins. SMU’s only losses would be to a playoff team and a bubble team.

In fact. I think it’s SMU and either Clemson or Miami with Clemson’s only path being a win.

Yes.

What does Duke really bring to the party? They don't have a quality win, they lost both of their games against top-25 teams, and they lost to us.

Meanwhile, we just beat #4 Miami, beat NCSU in a nationally-televised Thursday night game, and took UGA into 8 OT's in a nationally-televised Friday night game.*

In terms of national exposure, Tech is a pretty hot commodity right now. I think the Duke's bowl committee would love to have us.

*Maybe this is just wishful thinking, but I wonder if we didn't get more positive press in an 8 OT loss than we would have gotten had we won the game in regulation.

The Duke’s bowl is the ONLY bowl I think Duke is more attractive to the bowl committee than we are.
