I would not get too exited or depressed about which bowl just yet. Miami, Clemson or SMU being in or out of the CFP could shake things up a bit. I don't think the committee is certain to dump Miami. Or SMU if Clemson wins the ACC CG.

If we get the B'ham bowl I can make lots of suggestions for fun things to do in the Magic City. I went to grad school at UAB and lived there for 8 years.

We’ll be relegated to those lower bowl tiers until we regularly win the games we should win and, opportunistically, hold leads when we get them in those games we should lose.
Who did we lose to that we should have beaten? Georgia was the closest one and there is no way GT “”should” beat Georgia.

We did not lose to a bad team. VT was 6-6 which was the worst team record wise we lost to and King was out and Pyron got hurt. We were a very limited team that game and were not very competitive.

If SMU wins, I believe Miami will be left out of playoff (zero top 25 wins), and of course, Clemson will be out. That means we slide down at least one position.

I think our best case is Sun Bowl, but we can continue to hope for Gator, but I doubt that is a possibility with those other teams available.

Speaking of the last team in the 12 team playoff, everything I'm reading is USCe will get that slot most likely. Personally, I think UA beating them should give UA the nod, but it will be good to have a team in the playoffs that has never been there before.

Clem or Miami will go gatoring, IMPO. The stage is set for the shutout of the ACC.

As it is, both Boise (#10) and AZ State (#12) are above all ACC teams but SMU (#8). Miami (#14) is now out since they cannot improve their lot. If Clem (#18) beats SMU, they are now too far down to pass either Boise or AZ State if those two win. SMU will drop below them. The top 4 CG champs will be B1G, SECheat, MWC, and B12. The rest will fill from the teams already. The ACC might get an at-large, but that’s far from certain.

You're referencing the AP poll, which has no bearing on who gets in the playoff. If I'm not mistaken, the committee has consistently ranked Miami higher than the AP, and I expect that to continue after a road loss to a likely ranked Syracuse team.

Yes, I am. It’s all we have today. We’ll see when the CFP comes out.

The top five conference champs are in. No way Clemson or SMU (as ACC champ) will be ranked below whoever is the 2nd best G5 conference champ. If it's Clemson, the ACC might not get the 1st round bye. But, if it's Clemson we might get two teams in.

If the CFP rankings match the AP Miami is definitely out. There is no way for them, having completed their season, to jump Alabama or SC (who are also idle)

I thought it was top 4 guaranteed a slot, but I guess I’m wrong.

Why does it feel like SMU isn't really in the ACC yet and on top of that may be the only ACC team in the CFP. Just doesn't feel right if it happens.

I understand that it doesn't feel right, but they have shown they are the best in our conference, even if it feels weird- equally strong O and D.

Now, I realize the Dabo clown show could beat them next Saturday, but I doubt it.

I see a lot of parallels between SMU and Texas. By that I mean that both these conferences newbies got relatively easy conference schedules. I don’t think that was a coincidence.

I am surprised by the SMU / Clempson line. It’s nearly a 50/50 type game. True that Clempson has played a more difficult schedule but they’ve also lost to those teams…

I watched most of the Clemson-USCe game Saturday. 2024 Clemson is nowhere near as good as they have been in the past. Peak Clemson had elite defenses, QBs, and skill position players. 2024 Clemson has none of these with the possible exception of Mafah. They still have good players and decent coaching, but their results on the field are not a fluke.
Haven't watched SMU play but they seem to be steamrolling most teams.
