SEC Hype has died down since 2014 bowl meltdown and now that they have only won one title in the last 4 years. As long as they continue to dominate their OOC and Bama continues to make every playoff they will continue to get hype. Its a vicious cycle. ACC picked up great coaches 2 years ago and stepped up. The SEC east getting a good team again makes things interesting, and the big12 is hanging on ropes. The big 10 revamping divisions is a blessing and a curse with Franklin picking PSU from its grave.

Sometimes the best team in the conference doesn't win the championship. There's 10 conference champs, 5 power 5 champs so they are always excluded. It's a dumb argument. Makes it impossible for Norte dame to make it even when they deserve it. And once again, add a column for precedent: you don't make it if you lose by 30 points and have two losses and voila everything makes sense! It happened last year and happened again this year. Wins matter, but so do losses. You can't just keep ignoring the fact that they lost twice and no team that has lost twice has made it. That's called precedent.
UCF didn't lose at all.

Funny how we can just swing whatever numbers we want in any direction to justify which team deserved the last spot instead of taking the team that didn't sit at home this weekend.

happened last year too. Sometimes other teams are more deserving. If you want to make the playoff, don't lose by 30 points. Simple.

UCF also didn't beat anyone (that good) at all. Which is what the committee values most. Their best wins were a USF team who never beat anyone with over 5 wins and a Memphis team whose best win had 7 wins.
I know, I was just poking holes in your "losses matter most" argument.

It is kind of ridiculous if you think about it. Auburn and Georgia were worse off than Bama. All Bama had to do was rest up and get in...the other two had to go play a game for the conference championship that they could only lose and hurt their cause. It's crazy to me that the system allows for stuff like that to happen.

I'm honestly surprised bama doesn't get flack for their schedule but their ok the field performance, ya know the committee defined "eye test", is hard to argue against. They beat every team uga did in common (bar auburn the second time). And playing a playoff caliber team before half their team got injured is something you also have to take into consideration. And for the larger conference slate, lets look at FSU and Clemson the last few years.
Clemsons losses IOIIIRIRIIROIIIIRIIIRO
Of their 22 most recent regular season losses, 14 were in in conference, 5 were rivalry games, and 3 were out of conference. 19/22 were from teams they play every year.
For Florida state in that same window:
OIIIIIIIIIIIROIIIOIIIOIIIIR
4/27 were out of conference. 2/27 rivalry games and 21/27 for a total of 23/27 losses come from teams they play. Roughly every year on a rotating home away basis. You can't be bama and dictate neutral sites on conference games. You have to win in the road. And that's why it's more difficult and why every conf with a 9 team schedule has been left out already and everyone with 8 hasn't been left out
Their best win was over a mediocre LSU team that lost to Troy. Most of the teams in the top 15 have a better win then they do. They got beat pretty good by the only good team they played in Auburn. They struggled against Miss St and Texas A&M, two mediocre teams. What did they do that passed your eye test other than putting on maroon jerseys?

Not lose by 30 points.

Miss st would be 9-3 if their QB wasn't injured. Being ranked until then shows that, ya know, they are actually good. Texas A and M wasn't great but a wins still a win.

Neither did Bama!
LSU was 9-3. Their losses were to a 10-2 Troy, 8-4 Miss st, and 11-1 Alabama. They had a win over a 10 win Auburn. Them, Miss St, and Fresno State to a degree count as quality wins. They only played one really good team and lost (they could have had 9 more points on the scoreboard if their kicker wasn't ***). They also didn't lose to an unranked team by 30. which every team that won their conference and lost to a team by 30 never made the playoff, two years running.

Sure wish the committee would say this was the criteria over beating anyone and being better than 3rd best in your conference.

"The criteria to be provided to the selection committee must be aligned with the ideals of the commissioners., presidents, coaches, and athletic directors to honor regular season success while at the same time providing enough flexibility and discretion to select a non-champion or independent under circumstances where that particular non-champion or independent in unequivocally one of the four best teams in the country"

It literally is in the criteria. Word for word.

Miss St lost by 28 to UGA, 39 to Auburn, lost to a bad Ole Miss team, and struggled to beat UMass. They aren’t good.

Also beat a 9 win team by 30 points. Which means they had a better win than either Memphis or USF. Also beat a team with 7 wins by 35. and beating umass by 11 isnt struglling. IT might not be pretty by two scores is a game put away.
