The irony of this is that the players worth is based on fans watching and having player favorites. If the players keep moving aka transferring their value and thus the sports value goes down because fans can’t attach to them. Thus, long term it’s not in the sports or players’ best interest. We need more structure and real governing to this sport asap.
Not true at all. A players worth is based on what a collective pays him. As long as he gets paid it’s in his interest to chase the dollars. the player gives two craps about the fans.

The graduating ones and Leo were replaced with recruiting.
Oh, you mean high schoolers? It’s a different world. Can’t rely on developing guys from day one anymore unfortunately. We have to get portal guys. Two of the three graduating are portal guys themselves. I even forgot to mention Leary. That’s FIVE receivers we started the season with we knew we had to replace before we ever even had an incoming portal commit. We signed THREE HS receivers. Add Malik, that’s six receivers we have to replace. Our entire two deep at WR. That’s 6 in 6 out. I just find it really hard to believe Malik is leaving for any other reason other than being disgruntled. Based on the timing alone. If it was his intention all along, why wait?

Tend to agree. We have up and coming guys and recruits who can replace them. Also the kid who shirted for USC-e had about as good an offer list as you'll see for a HS recruit.

The FIU guys are experienced, proven producers. I am sure they cost $$. IMO we don't allocate that $$ if we think Malik is staying. You need older guys who are proven producers in the room.

I can't see Malik just blindsiding Key by leaving. They're known to be close. Whatever the case we seem to have our bases covered.

But you are forgetting that the fans (and the die hard fans that are the collective) will eventually lose interest knowing their favorites are always moving on every 12 months. Eventually, the money will stop flowing and thus player values and the sport itself will decline. Look at college basketball…one and done every year and the sport is declining.

I think we’ll be fine at receiver next year. My concern is…who are we throwing the ball to in Birmingham next week?

How do we feel about a starting three of Lane, Stockton, and Abdul? After that, Canion is the only one who has played right? Zion hasn’t played I don’t think. Pretty thin.

Our star QB is here thanks to the portal. It giveth, it taketh away. I agree there has to be some better structure created behind it, but let’s stop the “college football is over” talk unless you were saying it when guys like Haynes King and Chase Lane arrived, too.

Honestly… losing both Malik and ESJ sucks and not to diminish that but this is very much starting to feel like arbitrage. Would not be surprised if this is JJ’s strategy as our new “GM”. Get cheap transfers at skill positions, spend the NIL money to keep King/Philo, and redistribute the cash to the lines.
Ding ding ding. This is exactly what we should be doing, and it requires full alignment from the coaches/staff.

I agree but I feel like there is a big difference between transferring because you got ran out of town by a coach and transferring for money. Obviously we don’t know all the details but transferring for a bag is what is most frustrating for us fans, not giving someone an opportunity they got shut out of at their last school.

It's getting very hard to cheer for any individual players. They're gonna give us the finger faster than we can close out a full season.

Something has got to be done. Contracts are needed like right now yesterday.
