So, when McCollum left everyone was up in arms about losing all that production. Malik stepped up and became that go-to guy. He is a baller. There is no reason to believe that Taylor or Stockton could not step up to be the next go-to guy. There's no guarantee, but Stockton has great hands and finds holes.

We have no one with ESJ's speed, but if we have someone that can get behind coverages, they'll draw a double and help.

Sucks but the portal and NIL now give collegiate athletes their one chance to cash in on the big bucks before their stock plunges, esp for big-money sports like football and basketball. Especially if there's no chance of them ever going pro or lasting. Instead of maybe getting picked up as an undrafted free agent and getting released before the season even begins, why not try to make some money while you can? I hate it and it sucks but if I were in similar shoes, I might have done the same.

A big part of what holds my interest is to see how Cabrera, Batt, and especially Brent Key can pull Tech up by its bootstraps amidst the headwinds and whirlwinds of all the changes.
So far, I'm amazed at the progress.

Certainly that is a possibility. There is no guarantee though. We have brought in several WEs via the Portal. Hopefully they will be impact players. To date the WRs that came in as transfers have not been significant contributors on any consistent basis

Lane got injured or he would have been more that year this year it's hard to tell if it was him or just the reduced looks due to kings injury

Lane missed 3 games. He averaged 2 catches in the 9 games he played (20 total).

Singleton had 56 catches in his 12 games and Rutherford had 59 catches in the 12 games he played including the NCST game where he was hurt early.

Lane was a decent #3 receiver. Nothing wrong with that as all teams need more than 2 WRs. Lets not pretend he is as good as either Singleton or Rutherford.

King's injury impacted all the WRs.

We need to step up and keep our star players. We can't get the reputation as a "feeder school". Im ok with paying more to avoid this. There is a perception that GT doesnt have the money to compete. This is patently false.

I’m not a fan of the argument that players leaving for more money/bigger brands is a huge slight on college coaches. Coaches have been leaving programs and all their players for years and college football is fine (deBoer, Kelly, Elko recent examples). The coaches are just as guilty of it as the players. In many cases, it’s actually the opposite and players are using the portal to follow the coaches that developed them (Mateer from Wazzu to OU; the entire Indiana roster from JMU). Even in the case of Singleton, all of the position coaches that recruited him at the time of his signing are at Auburn and u[sic]ga now, both teams he has interest in. I agree that all the movement sucks as a fan but by and large the coaches are not the victims here.

Please flip the script for me and show me 2-3 scenarios where we have failed to fill the gap left by a WR leaving Tech in the past 25 years.

We are. We kept our OLine which is the engine of the offense. We kept the QB who is the transmission. We kept our RB’s. We kept our LB’s. You guys complaining about losing a WR are funny. Sure, it’s a hassle but that’s like getting a flat tire. Just pull in to the shop, get it replaced, and move on. Losing the DLinemen are a much bigger loss but it just means we’ll have to keep out scoring folks like we are use to the last 25 years.

LOL - for 12 years we rarely thru to WRs. We brought in some solid receivers via the Portal and as freshmen. They have potential but until they show they can do it all they have is potential. Pretending losing your top 2 receivers is not impactful is silly. Can they be replaced, sure but there is no guarantee that will happen.

Tell me which incoming Transfer Receivers have been impactful post CPJ's offense. As for freshmen Singleton was very impactful so hopefully one of the inbound guys will be impactful. Stockton should be a reliable receiver. He won't get many 40+ yard plays though.

Bottom line is we went from have 2 proven very good WRs to having no proven very good WRs. We now have potential!

Ok. So use some intelligence for a second and imagine the slot WRs that I’m referring to as A backs. Point out a time during that 10 years that we failed to replace the production from that group.

But i agree in principle- timecfor the young guys in wr and rb room to step up or portal.
