I think everyone agrees our GT baseball team controlled its own fate and we wilted. The argument is the proposition everyone's using against us would cause others to be eliminated. Take these for example:

Mutt finished up the season going 0-6 against Vandy and Texas, 1-2 against Bama, losing to Clemp. Oh yeah they went 5-1 against doormats Missouri and A&M, beat Ok and Ark 2-1. Then they got skunked in their tournament. That 10-12 down the stretch. Regional Host material there!

I've already mentioned the 3-7 Bruins. Who the hell did Southern Miss even play? They were 4-5 against Q1 teams. Hell, Coastal the media darlings are 5-5. They're close to an abundance of Q1 teams but can only schedule 7 OOC going 3-4?

My point is don't use weak scheule and not beating anyone significant against GT when you won't use it against the others.

Yet we were on the hosting bubble…
Eli,

I can tell you exactly why that happened.
Tech went 0-3 against the mighty sec and fsu swept the gates.

This is how biased the committee is. Tech has a better resume than fsu and that's likely the silly argument the sec homers on the committee makes.

Committee doesn't even care that Tech had 2 of their best hitters out during that 7 game stretch of which included two sec teams.

Proves my point as to why I'm a tech fan.
I'm not interested in minor league football, basketball, or baseball.

All the factories care about is athletics and athletics only. Make their athletes sign contracts and play for the sec so they can be a minor league feeding program for the Yankees and Dodgers.

All NIL has done is to give the sec teams legitimacy in their cheating.

Cabrera, Batt, and Key are doing are a very good job to compete. Whether people like coach Hall or not, the facilities have gotten a nice upgrade due to his relationship with Tex but let's face facts. If you think tech will ever rise to the level of facilities of a Auburn, Tx, or Ugag, that will never happen.

None of the above argument justifies the sec bias in the committee though
Not trying to justify simply pointing out the new rules to the game of college athletics. Keep up or be forgotten. Don't kid yourself and think tech isn't trying to find a way into this game. Two words Josh Petty didn't just sign a scholarship. He signed a contract as well as about 99% of the other players on Tech's roster. Toothpaste isn't going back in the tube.

Exactly.
Only argument I'll make about wilted was the uva series but going 10-2 down the stretch to include two series wins against top 20 teams in Louisville and Duke with a finally and fully healthy team goes to show how meaningless that seven game stretch meant.

The clemson loss on Saturday was a bad look. I'll grant that but S. Miss. Ucla, and Coastal certainly had their flaws that i feel Tech would destroy any of those host teams.

I won't let the mighty sec off the hook. Tn absolutely did not deserve a host site even with the run to the semi's in the sec tournament. They lost 6 of 7 of their last sec series and barely finished above .500 in their conference. Two of those sec series losses were to pathetic Texas AtM and Kensucky

Now you and I agree here and especially on Petty. Petty nearly backed out of his commitment based on some of the contractual details to be worked out on signing day.

I like the way Key handles the NIL with limited funds. He prioritizes lineman over skill players like wr's and rb's. Smart move I'm guessing in that he learned that from O'Leary and Saban. Versus a SEC school like Auburn who just throw unlimited dollars at as many players as they can and likely why they ended up with our best wr Singleton.

Regarding baseball, again with a limited NIL budget, I think Ramsey would be better suited to spend the majority of that budget on pitching.

I agree that the toothpaste ins't going back in the bottle. For that, you and I agree.

I will forever love Tech for what it represents. A true legend of a school that has top tier student athletes. In this day and age, that is a dinosaur thought process.

Let's be clear. The acc will have to fold one day soon and let's be honest, that would suck for a school like tech as the current commissioner is a complete joke and has no direction to lead the acc. Hoping we get an invite to the Big Integer. I want nothing to do with sec. If that doesn't happen, then it could be painful for a school like tech.

Let's just eliminate this pretense that these kids are student athletes.

Form two super conferences and put rules on NIL to include contracts and labor laws. Heck even the MLB and NFL have labor negotiations.

What's pathetic is two years ago. Texas' 3rd qb Manning made 2.5+ mm in NIL money to simply SIT on the bench while the near super bowl MVP Brock Purdy made just over a million on his rookie contract in the NFL.
That's absolute lunacy!

so…. Should we be hoping for S Miss or Coastal? If we win at a top 8, do we steal their super regional? How does that work?
We’re going to have to beat these guys sooner or later… does the next round set up better for us if we come through a higher seeded regional?

Everyone upset by the apparent snub of being a host can simply go cry a river. The best ACC team Tech played they were one win vs three losses. Tech played a weak conf schedule. Don't come back and say well look at duke or Louisville, they are mid-level conf foes.Nothing to write home about beating teams u should beat.Texh has lost every meaningful game it played this year. No trophy for being mediocre.Mediocre doesn't host. Duke, Louisville, Clemson are the best conf teams we played. Going 5-4. Getting swept by Miami and losing 2 of 3 against uva were the nails.
It's amusing to me to find fault with tech's argument but could care less about the vols losing 6 of 7 of their final sec series. How about ucla getting a gift as they went 3-7 against quad 1 teams.

Finally, how about the mighty Brett Favre school getting gifted vs earning a host spot with a strength of schedule in the mid 60's.

This isn't just about tech. In fact, if I'm Arizona or Tcu I'm more ticked off than anyone as the Big integer is the worst baseball conference of all the power four leagues and likely behind the sun belt conference as well.

How about the mighty cornhuskers taking down ucla....Only chance Nebraska could get in was to win tourney. Thought that argument only held in the sec as every non ranked, non-sec team winning their tournament just demonstrates how pathetic that conference really is....

Getting over it is no longer an option. I'm headed to wherever Tech plays and I do think DB is right "They will learn". Uga is a national seeded fraud that have accomplished only sweeping the barn. It's like accepting the screw job in Athens last year for football! Refs stole that game plain n simple. I won't let the mutt fans forget it. Reminded many of their fans about that at Truist park this year.

Tech needs to come out and just mud stomp some teams in their regional and move on the supers.

I hope this gives Tech a much-needed attitude adjustment for postseason baseball.

Sure, if you win all the games you don't leave the committee a choice, but as Techcaster points out, most of the host teams have flaws. We didn't make our schedule. We played what was in front of us and won a lot of games. We lost some close ones that we wish we would have won, but we won enough to win the second best conference.

Sure, poke holes in our "weak" schedule, but that game goes both ways. When some of those SEC teams lose series to "weak" teams it somehow strengthens their conference and argument, but when we beat the "weak" ACC teams it makes ours worse. We had more quad 1 wins than 7 of the 16 teams. Q1 is Q1. That's how the criteria the committee is using breaks them down - not us, so breaking it further down into the top of Q1 and the bottom of Q1 is beyond the criteria they're supposed to be using.

Go back and look at all of the close losses without two of our best three hitters. That's supposed to be considered too, but CLEARLY was not.

I think you can be mad and think we deserved it, but also move on a feel confident that we have a great shot in most of the places they could put us. Hell, I think we'd have a decent shot in any regional. We got blown out one time all season and it wasn't any of the "great" teams on our schedule and we beat that team in the next two to take the series.

Put us wherever. Nobody is gonna cry. We have every right to be mad though.

Well said.

I'm over it and ready to roll and go wherever Tech has to travel too. The bias in the committee has to be pointed out though. I'm curious how much further they intend to screw us today at noon.

Probably put us in the Austin Regional and say it’s because we’ve already played Auburn and UGA this year. (Sarcasm of course) but who knows with these jack asses

This is a great example of how you can skew a couple data points to justify anything

Reality is our metrics (RPI and ELO) put us into a beauty contest and a couple warts cost us. It’s not some grand conspiracy if you look at it objectively nor does it matter. We can easily win a regional and then we’re one series from Omaha same as we would’ve been before

Honestly Texas is very beatable. No clear #1 team this year which is nice if we end up in the 15/16 regional

Man… you’ve barely caught your breath from lecturing us all about how we should’ve been loving FSU for their football conference championship and outraged they were snubbed by a committee, but you’re fine with this?
I’m struggling to understand your motivation.
What are you talking about? Do you think GT is going to get left out of the tourney?

FSU was undefeated and won a conference title in a championship game, GT lost all 3 games against the SEC (neither of which made it to the SEC Champ game) and then yesterday with everyone watching we played pretty darn bad. I don’t know the last time I’ve even seen a high school player run past his teammate for an auto out.

Whether we play in Atlanta or not we have shown we can hit 7 bombs and we can meltdown. FSU would have loved to have the chance GT is going to get today.

If you can't see the secheat bias for what it is, you aren't paying attention or quite simply stated, you don't want to see it.
not at all baseball related, but why did this one particular sentence make me feel just a bit nauseous? ;)

By the committees own criteria, they're supposed to consider injuries. We lost those three CLOSE games without two of our top three hitters. One of which was leading the country in WAR for a large portion of the season. Not to mention it was three midweek games, which don't really reflect much of anything about your pitching.

Both sports have flawed playoff selections. As long as it's left up to a committee of any sort, there's going to be biases. There's no avoiding it.

With regards to playing bad, look at how some of the hosts did in their conference tournies with the word watching. You can start with the inbreds down the road. Our loss to a hosting team looked much better than their loss to a team that's not even going to be in the postseason.

They had a bullpen game against a legitimate projected first round pick starter for OU. Conference tournaments really only help teams they don’t hurt you. It’s always been that way

They probably looked at us as a team that needed to play its way into a host and we came up one game short. There are teams I think we have a strong case over but with RPI and ELO in the 20’s it’s hard for me to see it as an injustice. I definitely think we deserve a lighter regional not Auburn or Athens like some are saying. Then anything can happen in a super

I would rather play Auburn or UGA than Tennessee.

The second sentence is the problem. There's no way that should have been the case using their own criteria - Q1 wins, how you do in your own conference, and injuries considered. RPI is only one of the criteria.

Regarding the first sentence, if you want to dial into every starting pitcher you face, midweeks would be looked at a lot differently and it would nearly nullify those three close SEC losses.
