This is a job that coaches believe could be better, if only for the reason that it’s located in the heart of Atlanta.

Paul Johnson and his staff just landed the nation’s No. 46 class; that’s fairly in line with the program’s ranking here. But consider that the Yellow Jackets did not sign a single in-state pure skill player.

Georgia is a very crowded, competitive recruiting state, but there’s only one major Atlanta school.

The academic standard is obviously something to be figured in, but a sense remains that the option offense - and the stigma that it's stale and boring - has held back Tech from reaching its ceiling in this recruiting-fueled era.

“I’d like to have a crack at it and see what a little spread or tempo would do there,” one SEC assistant told us recently, laughing.

First, the SEC guy would have to recruit a super accurate QB. Good luck with that. Since UF, AU, Arky, Missouri, and the rest have had troubles themselves.

Exactly. If you don't count former ACC/Big12 transfers, has anyone in the SEC recruited a good QB in the last decade+? And don't give me guys like the Eason kid. All we've been hearing the past year and a half is how their current roster full of 4/5 stars is insufficient for him to win with.

"I'd like to have a crack at it ..." Really?

A "crack" at what? Recruiting kids who actually want (and have) to go to class?
Recruiting kids who actually have to meet some sort of entrance requirement?
Recruiting kids who have to do more than just fog a mirror to get by?
Recruiting kids with no "parks and rec" majors but still have to compete against teams full of "parks and rec" majors?

Yeah, let's see what a lil' "spread and tempo" do with all that. I can't stand these arrogant b*stards.

This doesn't make any sense. We don't have talent and they do, yet they can't beat us and think if they were here and could get us they same level of talent they get at their SEC schools they could do better? Something is lost in translation there.

Would anyone expect any less from a site that is getting paid by the SEC to create narratives like that? Especially considering all of the regional people, not just state people from 247 are SEC or UGA(pick your SEC team) homers. It is just a complete slap in the face in my eyes. THAT is some lockerroom fodder that BJS might want for that Natty he mentioned though...

Well ....... as much as I don't agree with the comments, at least it is uplifting that someone has interest in the job. I think I will stick with my solid commitment to a brilliant CPJ.

This pretty much sums up the inherent difficulties of coaching at Georgia Tech. You can add less than stellar support from "The Hill" and an alumni base spread out all over God's Creation and no the unnamed assistant really would not want a "crack at it". OTOH it is understandable that some eager beaver assistants look at Tech and go "Hmm". Consider the recruiting area, the city of Atlanta, a universally known school with instant respect in any household, and the certain, not quite quantifiable aura of GEORGIA TECH. Back in the 1990s we played a bowl game against West Virginia and their coach who I cannot remember his name (Don Nehland spelling?) said in a press conference the week before something like this: "Georgia Tech, there is just something about that name" Indeed there is.

Yet, under CPJ, we averaged more rushing yards per game last year than 13 SEC teams (out of 14), including their two division champs Bama and Florida. We dominate in good, old-fashioned, smash-mouth football that is supposed to be the hallmark of the supposedly physically dominant offenses in the SEC. We own them on the ground, and it's not even close. Our W-L record against them hasn't been too shabby lately either.

I have no problem whatsoever with our offensive recruiting. I think we do as well as one can expect given the well-known obstacles. Do we miss on some top local HS playmakers? Sure, but do you really believe that most of them could hack the academic hurdles of getting and staying in? I don't.

Thank you, CPJ for recruiting the kind of offensive players that like to dominate their opponents into submission. Unlike most of our opponents, I like our offense.

Never said the offense wasn't good. We just won't ever get Highly rated in State Talent.

Top talent joins band wagons that are rolling. We have too much up and down for them to invest here.

This year if our D steps up to the point we get good field position , our offense grinds um down, and we score big margins, we will start to see the talent come. One more uga win and they will definitely come.
Excluding small wr that won't block
