And to be honest with all of you, asking 83 to scoop a backside DE is bad coaching....

Ok so the call was actually not to engage That DE. You are suppost to take the backer, the DE is slower and further from the play going the other way. It is also setting up the counter off of it.

We've been running that formation since CPJ started here in 2008. We run that formation quite a bit - not always with the WR flexed close to the LOS, but that unbalanced look has been here for 10 years. I'm pretty certain that we know how to block out of that set, although it sure didn't look like it on Saturday.

It's meant to get a third offensive lineman to one side, unbalancing the formation and running power plays out of it. When they don't expect a pass, you throw the home run ball (like last year against VT). Clearly that was a strategy that CPJ had going in - because we showed it right from the start. What I'm sure is tearing his hair out is he explained how to handle the blitzing LB on the backside and even after a sideline correction it still wasn't done properly.
Can u gives us any ideas on how the back side should be blocked when we roll to pass on the strong side.?
Seems like the lb can take a wider arc and have a clear shot because the o t is in three point stance. With the braces that seems like a though block in that much space.
If the solultion is to put wr in heavy so he can help that's helps if he weights 215 plus. But that takes one wr out of the pattern and let's safety give better coverage on long pass.
