Protective Masks

Masks are obviously challenging to find right now. Although not all of them are the top flight N95, some will still help as a protective measure. Where are you buying your masks?

Nobody should be selling or buying N95 masks until we are sure that EVERY MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL in this country has a sufficient supply of them, because they are the ones who are exposed the most and who need them the most.

Right. These aren't n95 masks and I'm not trying to find those for our every day use. These are meant to provide the minimal protection that's recently been recommended.

I found using duct tape on my wife's mouth works better for me than a mask.

My girlfriend and I have taken up sewing reusable facemask for ourselves and for some friends who are in the medical field that have reported their facilities need for these soon.

This is the video we followed to make facemasks with pockets for "filters".



We are using the blue shop paper towels for "filters" that have been found to filter out a high percentage of particles when used in conjunction with cloth materials for facemasks.

IF you can, I would definitely try to buy them from sites like the ones DTM linked to since it would mean jobs for others.

For a long time, I believed that masks were unnecessary for everyday use. Last week, that belief was said to be wrong. I just found out that the Surgeon General (whom I have held in respect till this) and the WHO actually said the masks were unnecessary, so now I know the source of my mistaken belief. I sort of expect that from the WHO, who has sold out to China, but the fact that even the Surgeon General said that is very surprising and very disappointing.

My wife has made about 250 for hospital workers and police so far. She has sold some to help pay for the fabric.

My wife made some with straps from T-shirt material. The straps tie behind your head instead of looping behind your ears (which irritates after a while).

Important to make sure you treat your mask, reusable/or not, like it is covered in the bad stuff. Remove and dispose of it properly or dump it straight into the washing machine when you return home, and wash your hands and face.

Wife, a PACU nurse, has been making them for co-workers and docs. They are using more as cover over their N95. She ran out of elastic and has been using pony tail hair bands. She cuts them open and sews into mask like she was doing with elastic band. She did have to widen pattern a little because the pony tail is shorter than elastic pieces she had been cutting. She used to make surgery caps and has been using left over fabric from that.

Daughter (CV-ICU NP) and her partner in Rochester NY are 3-D printing eye glass looking things to attach clear face shield material to.
