Pressley Harvin as Kick Off Specialist

My apologies if this has been listed before, but I didn't find it on the forum search.

We've had major problems kickoff coverage problems for Johnson's entire tenure that were masked by Butker's huge leg. Why is Harvin not on the discussion as the kick-off specialist? Touchbacks would've really helped against USF!!@@!@!

Is Harvin only working on his punting to make it to the NFL? Doesn't operating as a KOS actually help that cause? I'm amazed Ithe idea has never been floated from the coaches. Am I missing something?

The coaches are not going to risk an All American punter on kick offs. PJ has stated this more than once plus the mechanics are very different. Harvin is a bigger asset where he is rather than trying to do both.

The coaches need to be coaching as if their careers depended on it, and trying every possibility is a start. The mechanics piece aside, are specialists really at that much risk on kickoffs? They're unblocked and if Harvin can consistently bang it through the end zone, there's no injury risk on a tackle.

Also, keep in mind they’re two different things. He may not be as good at kicking. They’re two different leg motions/procedures. I’m sure the coaches have inquired, but what do I know...

"too many freshman" on kick off coverage.

Trying to rest starters. Ended up killing us. Coach has inferred that we won't see 5 freshman on the coverage unit in the immediate future.

Heck, I was thinking maybe just have him punt the ball for our kickoffs instead of putting it on the ground. Excellent hang time, and he gets about 40 yards past the line of scrimmage and he's usually at least 10 yards deep , so they would be fair catching it inside their 20...hence starting at the 25 every time.

Shoot, have him punt it and run straight to the sidelines.....don't let him stay out on the field after he kicks it. No temptation to get involved in a tackle or anything.

Several kick offs were flat and returner caught them around the 10 already moving forward. Our guys were about 10 yards away so that speedster had room to run plus once he broke thru our tacklers there was no one left. We were basically in a line and outside containment got sucked to the middle trying to make a play. Those 2 kick returns were the main difference in the game. After all their D gave us 600 yards.

It’s worth a look. I don’t know the numbers, but I’ve seen NFL punters handle kickoffs.

Kicking the ball into the end zone is an incredible weapon...

Hell put him at qb and have him fall forward on the 1 yard line. Dudes like 250. He can move a pile a few inches lol

Not a bad idea...technically by the rules on kickoffs we can punt or kick, correct?
