Saw this yesterday and am hesitant to speculate what it means:

Brief history:
  • DT from Pinson, AL
  • Western Kentucky commit thru last January
  • Flipped and signed with Syracuse with an offer in February
  • Redshirted in 2014
  • Homesick and wanted to stay in the South; transferred to a community college in MS

Again, to be clear, not sure if it's worth reading into this or if it would have implications with Simmons. Decided to post since he made it public and am struggling to find a non-football related reason for the visit. I could just be wasting everyone's time, but it's a message board...

This player looks like the football recruiting version of Speed Dating: South Alabama, then Western Kentucky, and eventually Syracuse. Hard to say whether or not this kid should ever be allowed into a Baskin Robbins with 31 more choices to make.

However, if he is serious and has the academic foundation from HS, then if I were the coach this player would be extended a PWO with an opportunity to earn a scholarship in the next class if he is finally serious about committing to come to Tech.

Big body, but I agree if this has any merit, a PWO would be the only way to go. He is only a 2 star, and really had no other P5 conference teams offering. We do need bodies at the DL though. Not sure what this means: (I know what "LMAO" means; just not the spazzing part)

He's actually a pretty good looking prospect from his HS tape:

Reminds me of a BJ Raji type DT. STRONG against the run, caused problems for the OL and has the ability to collapse the pocket. Really good strength as his film shows him consistently beating double teams, getting great push, and easily gets off blocks. Has nice lateral quickness that helps him get to the ball carrier. He's not going to get a lot of sacks on this level because of the athleticism of QBs in our league, but he's going to make them scramble one way...and given our DEs, that's going to help someone make plays in the backfield. Great pursuit and hustle. He's physically ready to contribute right away...and a really nice frame for a DT.

His HS tape is actually more impressive than the tape of some of the DTs we've signed the past couple of classes. Nothing against them...just Harvey's tape makes me wonder what his story is. Really should have been recruited by more schools.

Good film. He understands leverage and gets angles pretty well. The kid faced a lot of double teams in the film. He doesn't run as well as JHD, but he is physical. He won't get pushed around much.

DT's can be underrecruited, mature and become really good NCAA players; just as OL can. Joe Anoia and Vance Walker come to mind....so the point here...don't look too much at his offer sheet etc...his tape is ok and he could have started to mature physically the last 1.5 years that make him more and more the player to compete at this level.

Hard to believe his academics would pass muster. We aren't often a JUCO friendly destination.
