We respect that you cannot say who it is...so just tell us all the people it is not...
The AJC has an article. The guy is highly experienced and has been Co-DC and assistant head coach, so I’m sure he will be either DC or co-DC. Looks like a good hire, given the link to Buford HS.

I actually saw a recent interview where he said he realized he was not HC material but could still be an elite DC...

Here are some names people have mentioned
  • Sherrer: He's a possibility, but if he was going to be the choice, why not announce it already? Unlikely
  • Tyler Santucci (Duke): Cut loose as part of the coaching turnover at Duke. Matches one of our other hires. Coaches LB, so either Sherrer goes, or one of them coaches a different position
  • Durkin (T A&M): Cut loose in the Elko hire. Will be expensive, and lots of teams going for him. Involved in hazing an abuse of players as HC at Maryland, so there's a cloud over him.
  • Rocky Long (Syracuse): 3-3-5 innovator. Old. Would be a complete shock.
  • Will Muschamp: Don't see this happening
  • Shiel Wood went from Troy to Tulane. Shouldn't be available.
  • Zac Alley: Jax State. REALLY young.
It's probably either Santucci, or some up and comer that we haven't listed.

Has Zach Arnett been picked up somewhere?

No and that's another name that's been mentioned. Based on the video from Quinlan, he's a guy some consider hard to work with iirc?
There is very little coverage of this process. The AJC has only written after-the-fact pieces.

There are others still making hires. I think most of the dominoes have fallen, but there should be some others looking for defensive coaches, and others might get poached.

Some B1G schools have been looking at pro assistants.

If Tech is going to hire someone, we'll probably know by the end of this week. Remember, new employees have to go through Tech's background check and more than likely the people responsible for that have been away from Tech during the holidays.

What about Jim Leonhard - former Wisconsin DC and interim HC, former Broyles Award finalist, current defensive analyst at Illinois. Followed his former HC Bret Bielema to Illinois but no idea why he's in an off-field analyst role, could definitely step into an on-field DC for us as a stepping stone.

Leonhard had hip surgery at the beginning of the year. Probably took an easy role so he could spend the year recovering.

Leonhard was widely considered a great defensive mind, and the reason they Wisconsin pushed out their head coach in 2022 out so Leonhard could audition for the HC role.
