Sorry don’t believe it, and it’s grounds for a lawsuit. What coaches prefer to happen and what is legal to restrict are two different things

Logical assumption is that something has to be done or do away with the bowl season.
i can see it affecting the playoffs with teams that have no scruples.

Not being the pot calling the kettle black but when is the last time you saw academic attrition at the flats? Seems to be an issue that has miraculously gone away.
You can thank the US News & World Report for a softer, more gentle Tech. Combine that with the Hope/Miller scholarships, the increase in the academic caliber of incoming students, and a pivot away from weeding out students gets you a school that wants to graduate their undergraduate population.

Yeah, I read the other day how they're now basically just sitting back watching the show and collecting their MBB tournament money.

So ... in other words, their useless arses are basically doing what they've always done?

And, there have been many more support services instituted over the years geared toward keeping students moving toward graduation.

I would also add the move to a general admissions process that significantly increased the number of applicants as well as the move to increase the number of out of state (and international students). But, you are correct. The change in admissions to accept more academically focused students (and less well rounded one), as well as a desire to improve their standing with peer institutions and get a higher USN&WR ranking has created a student body that is much more likely to graduate, but also less interested in sports.

This has been mentioned on here before, but what if the bulk of bowls got moved to the first game of the season? Similar to our game in Ireland, the chick fil a games in Atlanta. Kinda like invitationals, early season “classics” in college hoops. The bigger bowls will be reserved for postseason, playoffs, and top 25 teams. For example, if you miss the playoffs but are in the top 25, you may get invited to the Alamo Bowl, Citrus, Pop Tarts etc. A bowl like the Birmingham Bowl would get moved to Week 0 or Labor Day weekend, and featuring previous year respectable/upcoming year promising teams from the ACC/SEC. There would obviously be no opt outs, and I think you’d sell more tickets than normal end of year meaningless bowls since fans would be optimistic.

Just a thought. That would obviously be a major task and shift in CFB.

The majority of the Bowl games have morphed into TV content. If you move the bowls from the end of the season to the beginning of the season, there will be a vacuum in college football TV content at the end of the season that will eventually be filled by some other type of “reward” game. Maybe it’s expanding the playoffs to 24 or 32 Teams. Now we have more games at the beginning and end of the season. Not sure if that is good or bad, but something will definitely fill the gap at the end of the season.

I like it! Bowls at the beginning of the season AND…

Let’s make the bowls just a conference vs conference home and away games where all get invited (regardless of record). Maybe an ACC vs Big12 matchup. Best team in ACC not in playoff vs best Big12 all the way down to the worst. Consider it an extra Spring practice for next season and who cares if we have opt outs.

Not big on preseason games.
A regulated full contact scrimage - yes.

Post season - love the idea of top to bottom (not in cfp) between conferences.

Honestly not a big fan of this. If players want to leave then let them leave. They want to spend the Spring and Spring practice at their new school. Forcing them to stick around for another semester and participate in spring practice with a team that they full plan on leaving is a waste of everyone's time. Bowl games outside of the playoff really aren't that important.
Compound that… the team investing in them as a contributor for several more months when they could be developing (or finding) the next guy.

This is obviously in discussion because the conferences and TV see the writing on the wall. The massive media event they’ve created could be undermined by the portal.

On the flip side, I would expect the BIG /SEC blue bloods to push back on this. On the whole, they likely stand to lose fewer contributors than other programs, so they would happily gamble in the hopes of facing depleted opponents in the CFP.

It was about money back in the fifties just a whole lot less money because it was about butts in the seats, very little TV, so TV had very little say about what the colleges did. The Mississippi schools and Dodd differences back then as an example. It's always about the money in most anything that has money in it.
