Based on Cooley’s Twitter it looks like he might have a relative at NC State who also entered the portal a few days ago. Might be trying to go play together somewhere.

Once Alexander took over the RB2 role last year, I figured we'd lose Cooley. You hate losing depth at the RB position that takes a beating, but this is probably exactly what I would do if I was in his position.

I feel like we have a very deep and talented RB room - Anthony Carrie and Tre Maddux are still here (🤞) and we're adding some more really talented guys this year.

Related question though, I thought the portal closed on December 28 with a limited additional window of opportunity for teams playing a bowl game (5-7 days after the game). How is Cooley just now entering?

There are also some exceptions to the transfer portal windows:
  • Postseason play
    Players who participate in the postseason, such as a bowl game or playoff, can enter the portal an additional five days after their season ends.

  • Head coaching change
    If a head coach leaves their program, players have a 30-day window to enter the portal.

  • Graduate transfers
    Graduate transfers can enter the portal at any time, including outside of the winter and spring windows. They have until the end of the spring portal window to submit their names.
I assume he must be a grad transfer?

He had 5 days after the Bowl to enter - likely thru 2 Jan. GT had 48 hours to enter his name into the system after clearing him which would be 4 Jan (Saturday). As it is Monday the news could just have become publicly known. I have no idea if the 1 Jan Holiday impacted the timeline.

Can someone explain what gappened to Maddux last year?
His only game against non crummy team was Louisville and he got 14 yards in 8 carries. How did he get injured in the game? Stats show only 2 fames at rb.
Not dogging maddux.

Louisville dominated our ol / run scheme - King carried 14 times for 75 yds and jamal haynes ran utm 12 times for 25 yds. Thats the game when they blocket fg for td and we were down 31 to 19 w 7 minutes. King passed uscto the 25 with 5 minutes to go. Insread ofcraking ahots - we ran the bawl but didnt get first down. A rwal head scratcher. Brohm is a good coach. On 4th down he had sold out to stop the utm on 4th down.

Did he even see the field again after that game. He played pretty well in that one. I wonder if he told the staff he was transferring after that game. His brother plays for NCSU.

It's also possible that he's a grad transfer. If he is, there's not restrictions on entering the portal.

I rewached Louisville - their dl was dominating in the middle. Maddux ran hard with good pad level. The annoncer said maddux had 2 major knee injuries in the past. Wonder if he tweaked it and has been rehabing . Hope he can show off in spring.

Would have been a nice time to fake the qb keeper and sneak a pass to a TE

I posted some where else - what i found as i rewatched offense in louisville game.
Maddux looked good, but louisville could not be blocked. Also the announcer said that in hs maddux hasmd 2 bad leg injuries
