This is an apples to deck chairs comparison. We have no emotional connection to these kids other than the fact that they play for the school we like.

We can't have it both ways. We can't acknowledge the previous coach was a moron but require these kids to remain committed to what he had going on.

Kid made the best decision for himself and it came to fruition last night. Nothing wrong with a human being happy for another human.

I remember quite few of folks here saying he was just gonna be a 'guy' at Bama and have no impact. Curious to hear from those eggsperts now, btw.

Great post. FWIW, I wasn't one of the guys who thought he was going to be a "guy" at Bama. WTBS, Gibbs was picked at #12 bc of what God did for him, not for what Saban et al did for him. I believe he was worthy of the same draft spot had he stayed although, like you, I certainly understand the need to get away from the previous coach, esp. after Choice left.

Let’s be honest - if you got any fleeting moments of happiness/catharsis during the Collins era, it was probably the result of a play that Gibbs made. I’m thrilled for his success.

Gibbs is a stud. He should have left and he proved he’s a smart guy by leaving since it was clear we didn’t have anyone on that staff with the balls to stand up to the previous guy. Choice and Gibbs were the smart ones. Everyone else just wanted to keep the paychecks going. By leaving they showed more love for GT than those who stayed and allowed the burning down of our program to continue.

For anyone in the “why do we care about Gibbs” department: A Georgia Tech helmet sat right above his right shoulder while he was being drafted. Gibbs never stopped repping GT, never has spoken poorly of us, and will always be supportive of our program. Georgia Tech doomed him to near-irrelevancy. Bama elevated him to a draft pick worth well over 5m annually. Frankly that’s a Georgia Tech-intelligence level business decision.

It's obvious Marco just loathed Collins because he came right back. Key toughed it out because he thought he'd have a shot at the job if he waited imo.

Bingo. it’s more like if you were working at a company and your boss was running it into the ground why would you be a bad guy to move to a competitor that sets you up better. Hopefully with a new ceo/coach we will be back on the rise but I don’t blame anyone for making a business decision especially at a position like running back where you’re getting 1, maybe 2 contracts if you’re lucky. I appreciate Jahmyr for giving us a chance and trying to show out here but Collins was going to turn a 1st round talent into a 5th round pick just like Maryland did with Stefon diggs

To me, this is a weird take. Gibbs didn’t show love for Tech by leaving. He did show love for GT after he left, which is a reflection of his character.

Super happy for Gibbs but I am incredibly salty the best we could do with the #12 pick was 3 wins a year.

TFP did great in getting him to come to Gt.

He was so good TFP had to design the offense around him. But I think he did it in a way that really hurt the development of Sims and others. BUT I am forever grateful that I got to watch Gibbs be amazing at BDS.

I think Choice had more to do with Gibbs coming than TFG. I also think that he tried to build the offense around Sims more than Gibbs. I always felt Sims was told during his recruitment that he would be the starter from day one. Just my opinion.

None of us were on the inside with the previous guy but Gibbs was. Gibbs leaving showed the admin that the best player on the team who was the prize recruit by the previous guy no longer believed in him. I swear it seems like so many smart later in life guys on here haven’t figured out that words mean nothing and the only thing that matters are actions. Of course, Gibbs as a 20 year old isn’t going to blast the previous guy on his way out. Neither did Marco or Choice. But their actions spoke for themsleves. They gave the previous guy the middle finger with actions. GT fans spoke loudest by turning Bobby Dodd into Sanford South which led to the iconic photo of TStan having to escort that guy off the field. Then Gibbs, Choice, and Marco all tell the admin this ain’t working. Gibbs leaving helped wake up the decision makers to make a change along with the fans statement in late November. Gibbs and every GT fan who sold tickets to UGA fans should be lauded for forcing change. That change has led to a new direction at the top with JBatt and 2 new coaches. If Gibbs, Choice, and Marco stay maybe we limp to another few wins and still stuck with that previous guy.
