It would be hard to guesstimate how many times Johnson has explained that in eight seasons. Like how many marbles in the jar. Never makes any difference.

I know. It's just hard to watch other teams do things like run more than a fly route and maintain possession on 3rd down.

I'm gonna take a break from debating the patently false criticisms of our O scheme...just too damn tired of the nonsense cliches that get regurgitated. Maybe next week.
Some of the stuff reminds me of when I coached my kid's 10-year-old basketball team. The team klutz got hold of the ball and as I was screaming, "No! No!" from the bench, he launched a 30 footer, using all his muscle just to get it there. It got nothing but net. Whereupon I applauded and screamed, "Great shot!"

So it is the offense from 2014 to 2015. Same offense, different people, different results. But you know what? Regarding this topic, I'm with you on the sidelines now because I too am just worn out with all the silliness, the pass-more, pass-shorter, run-wide, coached and out-coached and, well, just stuff. So that a year after the OB, and in the year that Navy uses the same offense with some eye candy to roll over everybody in its new conference, and the Memphis coach marvels at it -- Break up Navy! -- defenses have figured it out. Again.

I think those are the key words....new conference. See how they are rolling people in 3-4 years after they have some time to see it more than once. Bet my pay check its the same result as GT this year. D's are more aggressive to stop the run, and force the pass on 3rd down. JT has to roll out b/c he cant see over the line and that limits what we can do. I know your rebuttal, he is an athlete and rolls out in order to pass or run. Yea ok, other dual threat QB's don't roll out every time. The d's we play have committed to stopping the run and its working and CPJ don't have an answer, regardless of injuries.

Agree or disagree, it is what it is.

I mean D's committing to stop the run isn't anything new. CPJ has been here 6 previous years and has had defenses commit to stopping the run. We've still had some of the best offenses in CFB.

I wonder if we called an audible at the LOS into a shotgun formation if that would give us the time to beat the blitz and hit some of the shorter routes. Might work better than what has been happening.

Well, whatever is is. But a minor point if you will, and I will type slowly: in 2014 Tech set 14 offensive records for the 120 year old, give or take, football program, or maybe it was 16, I forget. Tech finished 11-3, the second time Johnson's team had won 11 games at Tech, and demolished MSU from the powerful SEC West in the Orange Bowl after almost taking down undefeated FSU in the ACC championship game. Tech scored 35 points in losing, against a DC coordinator who spent six years at Johnson's elbow, and 49 against the powerful Bulldogs 2.0. In both games as I recall -- I really am as lazy as I say I am -- they chalked up 400 yards rushing.

I recount all this only to point out your fallacy: the 2014 season was Johnson's 7th in the ACC.

Some figuring. So that is your benchmark? Seven seasons and then kaput? You determined the shoals marker, not me. (And any D1 coach needing 3-4 seasons against an offense should be spanked and sent home to mama.)

We aren't blocking well at the edge. Why? Let me count the ways:

1. The blocks are going down too early. Why? Because the ABs we have on the field are too slow getting to the edge. If Cotrell, Benson, Snoddy at full health, or Searcy was out there, I'd wager the problem would seem less severe. They'd be going pass the D when the block was thrown. And …

2. We chipping people and not getting them on the ground. True and mainly due to being inexperienced, slower, and much smaller. Also, see above: if we had these people on the field, a chip would often be enough. Same for the OL if we had a consistent BB.

I know I sound like a broken record recently, but we are starting out-of-position freshmen and second string players at the skill positions on O. Some of them have progressed nicely; I wouldn't be surprised to see Lynch start next year. But the main talent at these potions is on the bench either hurt or held out after recovering (Quaid) so as not to burn a redshirt. Things will improve.

Who cares about records?? I care about W's.
Maybe I expect too much from GT.

Looking through your post history, I found nothing positive about the 11 wins in 2014. Odd for someone that only cares about W's. Maybe I expect too much from GT fans.
Continue to read his history and you might reconsider even calling him a fan.

It'd probably make the other team waste a time out more than anything....

Guys...this site used to be really fun to visit. Some great discussion both pro AND con but people actually posted real content.
Now it seems that if someone disagrees with you, it's time to go all nuke and criticize that person and call him not even a fan.

Coach Johnson is our coach and that's not going to change.
But if you can't realize that our team is underperforming greatly this year and that will cause many people to question him, then something is wrong with you.
Yes, we had a record of 11-3 last year. But here's the rolling 5 year trend:

2015 3-7 so far
2014 11-3
2013 7-6
2012 7-7
2011 8-5

Again, I'm not slamming our coach or advocating for a coaching change. But I think the whole notion of questioning someone's being a fan or not simply because they don't agree with you is ludicrous.

I think @Rock is just mad because his cousin, Matthew Jordan, isn't getting any playing time. That's why he hates Tech and CPJ.

He is self admittedly a Bama fan and just watches Tech due to family affiliation. I wasn't calling anything into question.

You were the one yakking about the offense, so make up your mind. Your impossibly, harummph, high standards move around like a bumper car. You do not, by the bye -- in the event nobody has told you -- apply those standards to grammar.

I don't know if I buy that. Notre Dame plays them every year and Navy generally has pretty good offensive success against them and ND is far more talented than any team in Navy's conference. They're gonna take a step back but I think that's going to have far more to do with having to replace Keenan Reynolds than anything their opponents do.

I'm honestly not sure where you getting this from. JT doesn't roll out every time. My gut says he doesn't even do it the majority of the time. The big reason he's running around everywhere is because we can't pass block for **** this year. Though the fact that he doesn't have great pocket presence definitely doesn't help. But he's made plenty of good throws without rolling out.

The d's we play have committed to stopping the run and its working and CPJ don't have an answer, regardless of injuries.
The D's we play have committed to stopping the run for eight years now. This isn't anything new. And if you ask me the injuries are definitely part of lack of answer.

Who cares about records?? I care about W's.
Well the whole conversation in this thread has been about the offense. Having a record setting offense generally isn't a bad thing. If you want to talk about wins you gotta include the rest of the team. It's a different conversation. You're moving the goalposts a bit there.

Maybe I expect too much from GT.
Honestly you might. IIRC you're an Alabama fan right? I've believe I've said this to you this before but I think you're spoiled and are out of touch with how the overwhelming majority of schools have to operate. It's a totally different animal than a school like Alabama.

I resort to that when I have nothing else too.
