Well, to whet your appetite, here are the recruits rated 4* by at least 1 service who will be on campus this fall, just on defense:
* TK Chimedza (ESPN)
* Justice Dingle (Rivals)
* Jay King (Rivals, 247)
* Gentry Bonds (Rivals)
* Bruce Jordan-Swilling (Rivals, 247, ESPN)
* Kaleb Oliver (Rivals)
* Tre' Swilling (Rivals, ESPN)
* Jaytlin Askew (ESPN)
* Jaquan Henderson (ESPN)
* Anree Saint-Amour (ESPN)

That's 10 right there, just on defense.

First of all, thanks for pointing this out. Any chance Simmons was a 4* anywhere? His offer list seems to indicate he was good enough to be in 4* territory.

Antonio Simmons was a 6' 3" DE and WR coming out of High School in Jacksonville back in 2014. Quite a find IMO. Here are some of his stats his senior season:

"But we’re here to talk about his football skills. Simmons took a lot of people by surprise with some impressive sack numbers during the 2014 season, and along with several other 2014 recruits coming to the Flats, he’ll be in line to eventually make life uncomfortable for opposing quarterbacks.

Simmons posted 50 tackles this season (33 solo) and 19 tackles for loss. Those are some numbers that will make most college coaches give a closer look.

Then you look at the stat line and see 29 sacks. Twenty. Nine. You read that right. In one season, Simmons sacked the quarterback 29 times for a total of 150 yards lost by the opponent. Throw in 26 quarterback hurries beyond those sacks, and a blocked punt, and you’ve got a diamond in the rough that could turn out to be something special.

Oh, let’s not forget he has a total of 108 receiving yards with just six catches on a 9.0 receiving yards per game average. Just for good measure.

Yeah, Simmons is going to be watched carefully. If he’s coached properly and has the right attitude and work ethic, then he can become a huge part of the Georgia Tech defense. He’s got good height for an end, but will definitely need to add some bulk to his frame. It’s possible he might be looked at as an outside linebacker, where he can use his speed to both rush the passer and in pass coverage."

Would not surprise me to see Charlie Thomas moved to OLB in CNW's scheme:

He's enrolling early I believe. He's got the frame to add some weight, and has the requisite versatility and speed to play OLB in the new scheme.

Definitely going to be interesting to see how it shakes out with certain guys. Particularly the safeties and and linebackers as I think there's going to be a lot of players with new roles. (Looking at you Jalen Johnson and AJ Gray...)

He’s like 175lbs. He’s have to put on 40lbs.

A 10 yard cushion is even better.
You ldft out several steps after getting back 10p yards,
1 we stay in the same exact spot.
2 then prior to snap we get in the ready position - lean foward , legs bent, arms at the ready.
3 At the snap - we immediately back while pumping our arms in perfect form,
i am sure we can confuse the other qb - like what the heck are they doing

Sorry guys, I was referring to Lamont Simmons. The transfer from USCw. I thought he might have been overlooked in the star chart since he didn't sign with us originally.

Believe it or not, his ratings out of HS are almost identical to Antonio Simmons, yet USC took him on a scholarship. That should tell you that even the big schools know that there are some real gems in the mid 3* pack. ;)

So based on talent, should we have / have had a top 40 D?

It may not be easy to figure out, but how does this compare to our ACC competitors in the middle of the pack? (Duke, UVa, Wake, VT etc). We know the answer compared to Clemson, FSU, Miami.

Well, 6 of them haven’t seen the field yet...7 if you don’t count special teams as well.
