IMO no school will be considered where the ACC already has a school, they will take a new TV mkt for the conference, thus Cincy, ND, Navy, Uconn would all be considered since we don't have MD/DC, Conn, Indiana/Chicago, Ohio TV mkts. It's all about the TV money-roof tops.

I'd like to see ND all in....or all out. I get the play the ACC made but just don't fundamentally like a partial participant.

If ND does join in football I think PSU makes a lot of sense. But ND will be able to dictate who the 16th is when that time comes so I see Navy as a real possibility.

No SEC team will jump. Only Vandy might be a tiny possibility but I dont see that either realistically. Few power 5 schools will consider it IMO even if contracts allowed it. That brings me back to Navy again.

I honestly would not care to add any more schools from Florida or NC. Uconn...I could live with. Cincy?... No thx.

Considering all of the above......I come back to Navy yet again.
I don't get the "or all out" part. What real harm is it to have them in partially? At least the way it is now we are guaranteed to play them every 5th year. That's better'n nothing.

Well, I dunno what "real harm." But, geez, one school should not be dictating to the entire conference. Kind of grating, you know? Particularly as they would get a heck of a lot more than they would bring.

They've been "independent" their entire existence, the domers are hung up on that, its a point of pride for some reason. It means they're aren't beholden to anyone. The ironic thing is now that they have one foot in the ACC and have a handful of other must play rivals, they really don't have any wiggle room anyway.

Apropos of nothing I suppose, but I just read the link to ACC division predictions for '15 and when I got to Louisville and the picture of Bobby Petrino the words "Notre Dame" popped into my head. Have no idea why. Except maybe both are overrated. Or something.

Not so much a point of pride as a point of greed. The NBC revenue is all theirs, as well as bowl revenue.....no sharing! I do not know how that plays out in the current market with the big revenue from ESPN to the conferences......but a few short years ago, I believe their independence make a difference.

Gives ND most of the benefits of conference affiliation but allows them to keep football separate as long as they like. Absence in football hurts the conference. How'd that work out for The Big LEast?
If their football is too good for the conference let em find a home elsewhere for the rest of their programs. Big1 will take em all happily.
Playing them once every five years ain't that big a deal. I'd rather play Tenn/Aub/Bama

I have a hard time calling ND greedy. Notre Dame uses the money the TV contract generates to fund academic scholarships. I have a hard time opposing that. Also, IIRC, ND shares some of the TV money with the opposing teams.

Didn't really mean it in a bad way.......the fact is they can command that sort of money on their own.....more power to them.

Considering events of the past few days one wonders if the ACC now looks with regret at taking Syracuse in. Unfortunately they had to take Boeheim along with the school.

NBC only broadcasts ND games, not the entire ACC, why would they share that? When the deal was done, it was thought to be quite a coup by the ACC. Both sides gain something, and both side give up something, that's the meaning of compromise. ND will eventually join in full and we'll all be better for it when they do. I'm sure this point was huge in the mind's of the ACC brass at the time. To toss them out now because we can't stomach a deal we agreed to when it was made seems like insecurity to me.

The ACC's deal with ND is hardly the same as the Big East's. Like I said earlier, both sides give and take. At the time of the deal, ND had a stronger point of leverage and they used that to their advantage. When the deal runs it's course, then you reevaluate, not during the term of the deal, unless both parties are amenable.

Just a personal feeling here but I always thought that if Notre Dame ever ended their historic independent tradition it would be to join the Big 10. The fact that they inched closer to joining the ACC filled me with a certain pride because it told me they thought their future would be brighter with a rising ACC than with the venerable Big 10.

My point was that ND remaining independent meant they did not have to share revenue. I do not begrudge the fact that they could do that and rake in the dollars like they did. When they inked the deal with NBC they were way out there in terms of $$$. I think with the changing landscape of college football, they wonder if they would get a comparative deal again........that has to be weighed against the risks of not playing for a conference championship i route to the playoff........it is all risk reward. ;)

I always felt like it was inevitable for them to join the B1G. What amazed me the most was the stipulation in the contract that IF ND joins a conference before the expiration of the contract, it HAS to be the ACC. That is the reason why I believe ND has planned to join the ACC somewhere down the line. One more year of a good Big-XII being left on the sidelines because they didn't play in a CG might cure it.

If you want to know why ND stayed independent in football, look no further than right here:

http://espn.go.com/college-football...-notre-dame-fighting-irish-football-deal-2025

NBC Sports Group announced a 10-year contract extension to televiseNotre Dame football games Thursday, doubling the length of its previous agreement.

NBC and Notre Dame said the extension would begin in 2016 and run through the 2025 season. The contract, reportedly worth $15 million annually for football, had never run for more than five years.

That is NBC playing risk/reward ;). Without ND, they have little to offer WRT college football.

As I said in other posts.....the fact that ND can reward those sort of contracts on their own.....more power to them.
And I am still looking forward to seeing GT kick their butts on in September.
