No way they shut the SEC out. Even with 3-4 losses they'd just rationalize it as if SEC losses aren't "real" losses. Look at how far they "drop" in the polls when they lose. Why is UGA still top 15-ish? Last week everybody said UF was sooo bad and Muschamp might be fired midseason. But a loss to them isn't a big deal this week?

That Rolling Stone article was dead on.
They have really quality wins. They beat that Tennessee team by what 3 points? And Tennessee just beat South Carolina who is really good because they beat Georgia who is great.

I want to like this comment about five more times. Yes, it is amazing isn't it. The writers were fully prepared for FSU to lose to Louisville and then drop FSU out of the playoff picture. That did not happen so now they have to miraculously elevate Florida (like they did Tennessee, Missouri, South Carolina and Texas A&M earlier in the season) so that uga's loss to them does not look so bad.

8 team playoff will happen sooner rather than later. Once they see how much money the playoffs make, every Power 5 conference will want in, the NCAA will want to push it, and ESPN/TV will push it. We'll have Power 5 champions automatically make it, and 3 wildcards...with a slot or two for the non-Power 5 so there's no anti-trust talk. That's 4 weeks worth of compelling matchups during a really bad time of the year for college football.

Is there any real possibility of the SEC getting shut out of the playoff?

Yes, if home team wins out among the SECW elite, Mizzou wins the SEC, and the rest of the top teams (FSU, Oregon, Mich St, TCU/KState, ND) win out.

10-2 Miss St
10-2 Alabama
10-2 or 9-3 Auburn depending on UGA game
9-3 Ole Miss

Alabama would win the West and then be 10-3 after a loss to Mizzou.

And no way the committee decides a team that loses at home to Indiana is worthy of a playoff spot.
