Happy for both of them! I was really hoping to see Maxwell stick in double A for another week though because I have tickets to see the Lookouts next Sunday.

That's a good question. I always thought he would be better suited for the outfield with that speed running down balls hit to the gaps. Playing second he always scared me a bit. His arm could be erratic.

He was in CF last season when I saw him at Low-A in Fredericksburg.

I had to look it up...he is playing outfield exclusively, mostly centerfield. As a pro he has played exactly 1 inning on the infield.

That is where I would have him. I never felt like he could play infield at 2B in the pros. And it was ridiculous to play him at SS because of his arm, where our coaches had him starting in his first games at Tech. It was unbelievably painful for me to watch him try to play shortstop.
Wishing him a successful career as an outfielder as a pro.

With his speed he can really cover a lot of ground out in CF. May be why he is still in A and AA while he adjusts to that position.

Yep, he is definitely a long term project to reach the major leagues.

I've been focused on the NCAA tournament and failed to post that J-Hen Malloy was promoted to Detroit a couple weeks back. For the past week to 10 days he has been the Tigers primary DH and has done well. In 33 PAs he has a slash line of 231/364/500 with 2 homers, 5 RBIs. He has K'ed 12 times (36% rate), but 5 walks also, so not a terrible ratio. That K-Rate will need improving if he is to stick.

Well there has to be an RBI otherwise it is not a sacrifice fly. You don't get a sacrifice fly for moving a runner to second or third on a fly ball.

All of these years I have been under the impression that’s exactly what a sacrifice is… an out that moves a runner.
“Sac RBI” is an additional distinction if that runner moves home.

Not all outs that move a runner are sacrifice hits. Most bunts are, but definitely not all fly ball outs. Only fly outs that score a run are sacrifice fly outs. For bunts, it is up to the official scorer to determine if the batter was trying to sacrifice himself or trying to bunt for a hit.

Has that always been the interpretation? I was taught wrong 40+ years ago?
I thought a fly ball that allows a runner to tag and advance was a sacrifice…. Oh the score books I ruined!!

Good question. I started keeping score close around 47 years ago at Yankees games, but do not remember if I always scored sac flies the same way.
