The comment was 5 of the top 6 preseason teams changed DC's. My point was that 5 of the top 6 final teams did not change DC's. Again, it's much more sensational to use the guesses at the beginning of the season than the actual results earned on the field. Not everything is an indictment of the polls.
Aren’t all memes that way? And 2 of the top 3 final standings teams DCs did leave. That is interesting on its own.

He was already making $1.5m/yr at PSU, so it's not a crazy jump in money. Apparently wants to be closer to his kids and I've read that he and Franklin didn't get along great.
27% increase? Most people would start looking for 10% so yea, 27% increase for a lateral move into a better climate? Sign me up.

My point was more that I think Penn State would have matched, he did pretty well this year. He's leaving for other reasons.

Who is Rob Ryan?

Buddy Ryan’s son. NFL DC for multiple teams. Long NFL resume

Edit:
Rob Ryan has been a well known DC in the NFL. His results are kind of mid, and he's been a position coach lately. He's an aggressive coach, but older now. Lincoln Riley's seat at Southern California is kind of hot, partially because of defense.

You can take this as a signal that Southern California is moving to an NFL model. Side by side with UNC hiring Belichick (who Ryan got a super bowl ring with), and schools like Auburn and Texas A&M focusing on the free agent model, it's a splashy hire.
