Iowa is my first loss today. Even though I was rooting for Richmond I had Iowa advancing.

Richmond's coach was who GT wanted to hire when Hewitt was fired, but GT couldn't afford to pay him as much as Richmond could at the time due to the Hewitt buyout.

I also recall that GT interest getting him basically a lifetime deal at Richmond.

Mooney Got 10 yrs $15Mil guaranteed from Richmond, which was WAY out of our price range. and while he may not have set the world on fire since his last NCAA team, he is still a better coach than Brian Gregory, which is who we ended-up with.

Hubert Davis is making a very nice transition for UNC in year one.

I did not realize that Shaheen Holloway had gotten into coaching let alone was a head coach. Damn shame that he didn't come to Tech when he played. St. Peters is giving Kentucky one hell of a fight

I’ve had rec league teams that shoot free throws better than KY — and St Peter’s. A game to just shake your head at

That's an interesting POV. If you look at the P5 schools that are also highly ranked, unless I missed one, only Michigan is in the NCAA Tournament and also went bowling.
Meh on Michigan. Hell, even Harbaugh **** on the academic side for football players while he was coaching Stanford. Great academic institution? Yes. A lot of soft classes for SA? Absolutely!

The evening games were alot of fun to watch. The early games were chalk but from the Richmond game on it was alot of fun games to watch.

Here is the best moment of the Tourney so far

Kidding just a little.

KY and Iowa were my 2 big losses yesterday.
Yesterday reminded me of something I forget and don't take enough thought of into my madness brackets. Largely forget about the 'paths' that a team has - how easy or hard they appear, but focus instead on whether the team is good or playing well. That is more important. I had KY going relatively far not because I thought they were great but because I thought they had an 'easy' path. I did the same for Duke and I may very well end up regretting it (actually I won't regret if they lose early just like I don't regret KY losing early).

Two more games last night were "almost" lost by higher seeds. UCLA and Arkansas just barely hung on against #13 seeds.

St. Peter's win was the 5th biggest upset in NCAA history in terms of betting odds.
  1. In 2012, No. 15 Norfolk State beat No. 2 Missouri as a 21-point underdog.
  2. In 2018, No. 16 UMBC beat No. 1 Virginia as a 20.5-point underdog. UMBC won the game by 20 points. This is still the only time in history that a No. 1 seed lost in the first round.
  3. In 1997, No. 15 Coppin State beat No. 2 South Carolina as an 18.5-point underdog.
  4. In 1993, No. 15 Santa Clara beat No. 2 Arizona as an 18.5-point underdog.
  5. In 2022, No. 15 Saint Peter's beat No. 2 Kentucky in overtime. as an 18-point underdog

It was also the biggest upset of all time in terms of the difference in budget for the two teams - KY's BB basketball budget is 11.7 times larger than St. Peter's. Second largest upset by budget is Lehigh over Duke in 2012 (11.5x), then Morehead St over L'ville in 2011 (10.8) and Mercer over Duke in 2014 (9.8x).

The good news for your bracket is that Duke is playing like a bonafide 9 seed down the stretch, so they should win their first game against a 15 seed.

My regret is not sticking to my initial submission of Murray St over Kentucky. I panicked and changed to the easiest path argument too (Murray St. vs. SF was a coin flip). At least UK didn't make my Final 4.

I'll happily take a Duke loss, even if it further messes with my bracket.
Why do you think Duke has an easy path? I look at the potential H2H with Texas Tech and think the Red Raiders are outright the better team. Then most likely Gonzaga or Arkansas awaits.

Duke has the most raw talent. When they put aside their individual ambitions and play as a team they are really good. I have them winning.
