I don't think we should have beaten Syracuse, they were the better team. Frankly we were lucky to only lose by three.
Sort of reminded me of the game against UVA a couple of years ago where we were outplayed for 55 minutes and almost made a miracle comeback - but the key word is almost.
They were the better team that day.
VT was basically the same thing. They were the better team that day because King did not play. I don't think if Philo played the whole game GT would have won. I was impressed with how he played, but I suspect VT would have changed their D, and frankly when he came in they were playing pretty conservative, not wanting to give up huge plays.

I think 6-4 is a pretty accurate reflection of this team.

The stats above show why from an overall standpoint we are roughly the same level as last year - just slightly better.
Offense is pretty similar overall to last year. Defense, especially in the 2nd half of the season - starting with the Duke game (with a 4th qtr relapse against UNC) is much better than last year, but special teams is much worse than last year. The gains in defense are almost being offset by the deterioration in special teams. If our special teams hadn't been among the worst in the country this year, then we likely win 1-2 more games.

I feel we are playing our best ball right now. CTS has made noticeable improvement in our D, especially pass rush and overall pressure they generate. We have developed true depth and versatility at the QB position- out of necessity. Same at the other skilled positions on O. The OL has depth we have not had since before CPJ.
I am very optimistic about the future of GT football. Key is now 17-14 in his tenure, despite have schedules that are some of the toughest in the country, and the disaster he inherited from TFG.

Need a healthy King to beat NCST and anyone we already lost to
Ha ha. King was not healthy against Miami and will not be healthy against NCS, but will probably play as he did against Miami. And we can beat VT with any one of our 3 QB's if they are healthy the way our defense is now playing, #2 scoring defense in the ACC and #40 nationally, with the advantage we have with our coaching staff. Believe what you want to believe, I couldn't care less.

You guys aren’t really arguing are you?

Tech has had one of the gutsiest efforts this season I can ever remember. No question we do better with healthy QBs and healthy RBs. But we also have won some games due to excellent game planning and coaching.

Win or lose Thursday, this is a good team and this is a good program. Can we pull out another win with baling wire and chewing gum? It’s a delicate balance to keep everything holding together.

Go Jackets!

We lost, you can say oh we would beat them. That’s what Duke and Carolina are saying about us, oh we could beat them now.

Sure we could. What is the point of that exercise. I guess it feels good to you. Whatever makes you feel good is good.

No kidding, the program is moving in the right direction. There are always ups and downs since someone wins and someone loses; both have dedicated their lives to winning.

I have an NC State friend who doesn't think much of the Pack this year since they have so underperformed expectations. I tell him to relax, they aren't ranked and we only have a 55% win rate against unranked teams. I told him if Haynes and Efford are playing near 100% then we should win easily; but if they aren't the Pack's chances get better. But what I don't say is that is looking in the rear view mirror of where we have been, not where we are or are going. Again we are going in the right direction win or lose tomorrow night.

(Disclaimer - NC State is one of those schools like UVa that I really like. And that's largely because I generally like their alum.)

Based on that article Cooley could play in 2 more games and take a medical redshirt and come back next year if he so desired.
It was reported by KQ that he plans to walk on Sr night so he might be planning to transfer. I hope he stays as a grad student but he is from the Raleigh area.
