Midweek v Georgia State

I was thinking the same thing. When he was throwing strikes, he looked unhittable. How did he end up at GSU just a few miles away and in the SBC and not with us in the P4 ACC?
He wanted a coaching staff that wouldn't cut him if he got injured or had a bad outing. (like the 10 from last year) He wanted coaches who don't treat their pitchers the way GT treats theirs. He was smart and reached out to several of the 10 pitchers who were at GT last year and either got cut or injured and lost their roster spot. They had a lot of information. He also reached out to GSU pitchers and asked a lot of questions. GSU pitching coaches are not rigid, tyrannical-type coaches. This kid was highly recruited at all levels and chose the best fit for him. He will have a bright career.

That second Georgia State pitcher was throwing 97/98 with his fast ball. We have NO ONE able to do that, How can Georgia State find a guy like that and Georgia Tech can’t?
GT can find them, but can't land them due to the history of pitchers being brought in, injured and then cut when they can't help the team anymore. Word has spread, and players are choosing other options.

Did Charlie Wilcox, Cooper Underwood and Jamie Vicens reach out to former pitchers? You know one of these three were drafted.. I wonder if he is smart?

Like Adam Mckelvy who has yet to be healthy but is still on the roster?

Don’t know anything about this @Shanna, but all I know is GT pitching hasn’t been able to crack through when the rest of the program has….

IF this year turns out to be like all the rest, will we do something with the pitching coach? Too early to ask, I think….

Georgia Tech was 4th in the ACC in ERA during 2025. If people can’t see the progress Matt Taylor has made they either don’t want to or don’t understand baseball.

He has pitched 3.1 innings this season so far. I will be surprised if he "stays" on the team. However, he is a lefty and can be more serviceable as such once he is healthy. One player doesn't erase the other 10, or their opinions.

So if Tech brings in a pitcher who missed an entire season due to TJ surgery would this narrative still be true? Payden hadn’t pitched since 2023 yet we brought him in and he played a key role in 2025. Maybe you are just clueless

Matt Taylor has made progress; however, there was nowhere to go but up. The program was not good in any area of pitching by ACC standards. Taylor is very knowledgeable, and he has turned the pitching program around. He is a very hard coach to play for, and many players find him abrasive. Others like the "hard" coaching. I think the issue is pitchers being cut once they can no longer help the team. The portal has created this. If someone gets hurt, I can grab one out of the portal mentality. Pitchers have been a huge turnover, even after highly recruited classes every year. Connor Chicoli is a perfect example of this. He is now thriving at USC. There was also a dad who posted on X about his kid's arm injury, and GT denied this and cut him. Baseball is a business now.

He was hurt half of last season. So based on your logic he should have been cut.

Shanna is our old buddy who pops in anytime things go badly. Things are going so well now that Shanna's only opportunity to post negative is when we happen to lose a single mid-week game and someone on the other squad looks halfway decent. Just let Shanna vent and know that there's nothing behind the posts except for the fact that D1 baseball programs aren't little league where everyone gets a trophy.

Haha, again, he wasn't AT GT when he was injured and had TJ. He was completely healthy when he transferred to GT. Second, he was a grad transfer. So, maybe YOU are just clueless.

Chicoli never got hurt at Tech. Did Tennessee cut Dylan Loy?

I didn't say "ALL" pitchers get cut if injured. I said MANY have been and have shared THEIR stories with others, including the player's dad who posted about this on X. And after this year, he just may be cut.

So Tech will sign other teams players who have injuries but cut their own with the same injuries? You sound really smart…

lol, I don't think things are going badly at all. I think GT is a very good team. I answered some questions that others have asked that do not seem to be aware of. However, the best player on the field last night was GS's lefty, throwing 97/98. It was a very energetic game, and I enjoyed watching it.

OMG are you dumb? It's expensive to pay for surgeries and rehab. Yes, GT and many other teams sign players once they are healthy. Typically 16-18 months post-op.

Shanna is the poster who claimed that one of our former players, an unpaid, grad assistant, disliked the program so much that they "quit", when in actuality they moved on to a lower tier school that had an opening for a paid, full-time assistant, position.

I have no idea about Loy. I was giving an example of Connor being cut/losing his roster spot and thriving at another program. Like I said, not all players mesh well with coaches. They have to find their fit.
