Many of the posters who think Mack is a fine and wonderful gentleman forget that he was one of the originators and facilitators of the fraudulent AA studies classes that were blatant cheating to keep football and basketball players eligible.

The BB school problem is why Bear Bryant left KY after being successful there for a brief period. Macks first time at UNC he had really outstanding players but could never get them to the top. Great recruiter every where he's been. I always thought his TX teams were soft but he had great players and enough of them did bring him a NC.

That was Dean Smith mostly. I am of the belief that INC would never threaten their university’s accreditation over football. They absolutely would over basketball.

Back in the day (70's-80's), we offered easy courses colloquially known as Shocks, Rocks, Socks and Crocks for Jocks.

Anyone care to identify which engineering schools offered these courses and what the subject matter was?

And BTW, while I disagree with what UNC did in principle, I've never understood why everyone makes such a fuss about it. UGA built a whole university around this idea.

It was used by all UNC sports. The WBB team was using the AFAM classes. Got Hachell in trouble and she got another year or two before she was let go. I know a kid that was on the baseball team. Asked him if he took any AFAM classes. Answer: 3. It was pervasive in all sports to help keep them eligible. To be honest, these college athletes are trying to balance athletic practice and travel with academics. It was unethical in my opinion but understand why and how it happened. Doesn't make it right though.
