? Damn are all of you people posting on here ol coaches as much as you all seem to know CPJ should just turn this ol over to you all since you know so much. I don't know who you all are except flea and l would say he is probably the only one on here who knows what is going on. A past gt coach told me one time if all these fans knew as much as they think they do then why in the HELL are they not doing it for a living! GO JACKETS '!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Most of us here are engineers, not PE majors. With all do respect to Paul Johnson & your formerly employed friend, i'd be happy to take over the reigns at GT. And I would do it for 1% of the pay (literally). Also, I guarantee you I'd land better recruiting classes. And, I'm willing to roll the dice and say I'd at least match the expert's return of a 3 win season.

. . . now might not be the time to ride on the high horse of coaching prestige. I was only half kidding in the other thread when I said CPJ should be replaced with Computer Paul Johnson. After all, he's basically being paid 3+ million a year to make what, a sequence of 60 data-driven decisions per game? I'd taking GT's computing department over CPJ's brain in that battle. I'd probably take their personality too.

Not trying to be an ***, but that is an unbelievably arrogant statement. There are 128 D-1 head coaches, whether folks understand it or not these coaches are the elite of their profession and for any fan to state they could do ANYTHING specific to that profession better than these coaches is simply ridiculous. Almost as ridiculous as a HS QB saying he can do ANYTHING better than an NFL QB.

Ok, I'll bite. I'll guess that less than 1/3 of those that post on this board are degreed Engineers & less than 1/6 are actually employed as Engineers.

As far as the experts who can tell you what we should have done after the game is over, don't know about your line of work but we've got got nearly a thousands experts in everybody else's business except their own where I work. Seeing the same dynamic play out in the military, I'm pretty sure this is the GOLD standard worldwide regardless of your occupation.

Fair enough. taken out of context, my statement was arrogant. However, I ask you read my reply as I intended it - the third response in a conversation, beginning with:

(1) me asking the father of a player who plays LT a question, a legitimate IDK the answer question, about that position;
(2) some grammar-fearing dude replying to my question and insinuating that I was some unqualified know-it-all for asking a question;
(3) me counter-attacking the unwarranted attack in message #2 by (immaturely, arrogantly) calling the credibility of his authority into question.

@OldJacketFan I don't completely agree with your analogy or its underlying logic. Having played HS Eric Berry and HS Cam Newton, I can tell you that those guys, especially the former, could escape from the pocket better as HS than one of the NFL's greatest of all time, Peyton Manning (assuming a constant D). Also, as alumni of our beloved STEM institution, aren't we trained to challenge or question authority, rather than grant a prima facie acceptance of its merit? Nonetheless, I respect you based on your prior posts. And this debate is not what I intended. I honestly only want to know the difference between a LT and RT. I apologize for my arrogance (sincerely). Also, I (sarcastically) retract any criticism towards the small group of experts who we pay $24 million a year for our crowning athletic achievements. I (again, sarcastically) accept that these experts are maximizing GT's recruiting spend, which is nearly equal to the amount of money we pay to all of our current players (scholarships). Clearly, no outside contribution can enhance our recruiting yield or make Paul Johnson more palatable to 18 year olds.

Okay how many strawmen can be put forward at one time. Sure EB or CN as High schoolers are going to escape an NFL pass rush. Right, brilliant, fact base argument there. Neither would have a clue where the rush would be coming from as high schoolers. Now go back and look at what I high lighted and responded to. What in YOUR background would give ANY credence to your statement? I couldn't care less about your criticisms of Tech's coaches, they are well paid and get the good and bad that comes along with it. My issue was with exactly what I commented on, nothing more nothing less.

@flea77 - I love your passion for the game. Your son had a great year, especially for a true freshman. Glad your family is GT. Wish you and yours nothing but the best. Second, @flea77 am I correct in thinking that the LT has more of a "head hunter" role than the RT in the sense that if the majority of the plays are going to the QB's right, then the left tackle is releasing down field on an angle to hit a 2nd level defender and spring a big run on the outside? or, in college, are the backside DEs so quick that will has to "pull check" and cut off containment?

Shamire was great at RG when backing up Shaq. @Justa Fan I'd love to see "little" Campbell and Shamire platoon at RG this season. If that happened, I think these ACC DT's would need to up their dose of prozak.

Lastly, I think the younger Braun will play this year. Seriously. Look at his film. Dude is a killer.

Happy holidays to all.
Both LT and RT do the exact same thing , its just flipped . Some backside plays they anchor the DE , others they scoop and release or cut the backside DL / LB / whoever they can LOL . Play side they base or inside / outside release to the second level . That depends on the defense and the calls made along the LOS . The game has started to slow down for Will and some of the younger guys . This spring is going to very important for the team . Its hard for a true freshman OL to get on the field without being here in the spring . Its just a lot to learn . Will until this year had only played LT . It was a adjustment . Even though the responsibilities are just flipped , the footwork , etc is the opposite also . That is why they started using Chamberlin to switch between LT and RT . The young guys had enough on their plates already .

Thanks for the insight, flea! I know it must be tough for you to bite your tongue when you read so many uninformed comments especially ones critical of the band of brothers of which Will and you are apart.

Thanks for staying aboard, your insight is very much appreciated.

I'm excited and hopeful to see us regain dominance in the trenches, especially the inside run game.

Thanks for your contributions/input. From an accountant's point of view, I have a hard time following most of what you wrote BUT I appreciate you taking the time to try and explain it from a football player's perspective. :)

I know that boomer watches lineplay closer than I do, and disagrees with me, so I'm probably wrong, but I've just never been overly impressed by devine. I know that when he's able to physically engage he's a destroyer, but he looks terrible in space to me.

Boom, do we have any backups at center that would allow us to get Marshall playing time, or is he just not one of the best 5?
Fair enough, I am not impressed with the option. How do you feel about Devine's pass protection?

If he won so many matchups, why couldn't we run up the middle?

No dive = no offense.
The middle wasn't there to run .it was over studied to be shut down by the d. If 71 did well other things didn't ,Wich is football.sometimes a hole was made and the ball goes the other way,again football.he may have been the only lineman the d respected (imo).how many of his 1 on 1's got to the back field how many of his touched the qb? Don't blame that ugly run game on 71. Plenty of times I seen the runner just run right in to devine. 2014 devine was a back up of lg.why didn't they keep hi. Left g and move the more experienced senior to right g? GT is experimenting with Devine. What did you expect out of the young man? I understand you didn't get what you was hoping for from 71. Fair .I didn't get what I was hoping for either out of the coaches.so we are in the same boat with a yellow jacket on the motor.fair conversation

Gave u a "like" to welcome your posting to gtswarm.

I like 71 & hope he gets in football shape.

Coaching is a tough job. It seemed like 71 would be ready for rg but the defenses frequently left him uncovered and exposed his lack of open field speed. In 15 he spelled lg in 3rd q when we knew what defenses were doing and he HAD certain plays (down blocks for pulling guards) which were called when he went in.

Also fair, and, TBH, I don't have a strong opinion :/ I didn't pay close enough attention to pass blocking to be able to point out who was good and not so good.

I assume from your post that he was one of the better pass blockers on the squad?

Was shaq great all 4 years or just his last? Has GT ever had a 6'7 " lineman ? "Step down" I am thankful that's just an opinion, not a fact.

I think Devine in a Pro Style O would be an OT.
He still needs to drop weight though and get in better conditioning. If he works hard and gets in better shape he'll be a nightmare for Defenses. I also think he may be the most talented OLineman on the team and his future is in the NFL @ OT, but he's gonna have to bus his .......

Oh I also noticed how personal this was for you.

One of the things I really noticed about Devine this season is the defense left him "uncovered" A LOT. Quite a few times I paid attention to his side, there was no defender lined up over him. When there was a defender lined up over him, Devine pretty much wiped him out.

Every lineman on the team would have been a step down from Shaq. Shaq improved each year but played at a very high level early in his career. A little ahead of Shamire at the same point IMO but that's certainly arguable. SD may have the higher ceiling even still.

Our line has loads of potential and hard work from now till September will show dividends. Go Jackets! Bust their ***!
