No doubt there was a ton of blitzing this year. Teams would run blitz and then just keep coming if it was a pass. It left a lot of open space that was only taken advantage of on occasion. The remedy is finding the open space whether one on one coverage with the WRs or just some dump offs to dragging backs out of the back field.

The only game I saw that was against UGA & GT was missing the WR. Just couldn't connect.

Some of that falls on the BBack too. The bback has to be able to create.
I agree, but I think it's more about quickness to the mesh, reading the crease and exploding through it. Laskey was great at this and by the end of '14, Days was even better. Wish they were around to coach up the younguns.

Of course they had Shaq paving the way. We lost a ton to graduation. Probably equally as devastating as injury.

Along with the run blitzes, teams also made it a point of emphasis to treat our OT like WRs and jam them at the LOS making it even harder to reach the Mike

Unable to pass teams out of that. Teams had zero respect for the passing game. Clemson even seemed willing to get burned a few times but kept attacking. CPJ will have to adjust to that.

Our WRs were able to get open for 10-15 yard completions (when JT had time to throw), but we missed on almost all our "make 'em pay" attempts. I think it was a combination of things, but I attribute it mostly to the ever changing lineup that injuries imposed on us.

GT rarely ran off tackle which might have disrupted some of that.
They gonna face those defenses next season and cooridators again will go all out to disrupt the plays in the backfield and dare GT to burn them with the pass. CPJ will have to adjust.

If Devine went pro, he'd be expected to cut block on the backside of most running plays.
We want him to cut block on the front side of some running plays.

Really not that crazy.

Cutting backside a de in down the line pursuit is totally different than second level cutting of a mlb assignment straight on So i will have to respectfully disagree

If he were asked to do second level blocking via position and a zone switch i am fine. But what he is trying to do doesnt fit him imo.

It's up to Shamire how good he wants to really be. Lose or gain weight, better conditioning, etc. bottom line it is up to him to choose his progress proceeds by the actions that the takes.

A few comments:

• As I said before, I think Bryan goes to guard and Klock stays at OT. Their talent is about equal and next year they'll have a much better notion of how to use it. So, I'd play Bryan inside because he's stockier and less likely to be stood up by the DTs.

• I agree that Griffin starts at OT. He got hurt in 2014 and, apparently, worse then was evident. If he returns to form, fine. If not we have good candidates to move up (especially Fromayen). If he's healthy, however, he starts and that would be good news.

• I've always been a Shamire fan. I think Coach probably moved Joe over to guard because of OT play, not the OG's. Shamire wasn't doing some things as well as Joe (and vice versa) and moving in Klock and Bryan gave us more speed at OT. Still, I thought he would have delivered more if he had continued to start. I also don't think this is a weight loss contest; I doubt Shamire will ever get down to 340 or so. What he has to do is build his flexibility and endurance in the off season. I believe he'll do that; shoot, I don't think he'll be given much choice.

• And, finally and one more time, I think a vast amount of our OL problems this year can be attributed to the lack of speed in execution in the O. Remember our first TD in the Tulane game where Searcy simply outran the edge defenders? I do and I hate to think how many of those opportunities were lost when our AB speed went to the sidelines. Our speed to the mesh by our BBs - all of them new kids who obviously had problems adjusting to starting - didn't help either. Result = a brush block that would have gotten Hill or Perkins or Andrews or Snoddy (he did this at least once) free in the open didn't this year. Result = a crease that would have gotten either Days or, especially, Laskey free for 5 or better wasn't exploited. I get the feeling this will be less of a problem next year; the talent we have coming back is pretty good.

CPJ has been adjusting to what Ds do for 40 years. There are plenty of adjustments in our scheme to adjust to anything a D does. What coach has to do is have our guys schooled up enough to execute the adjustments.

The passing game probably needs the most fixing but that is very arguable. First priority is schooling the veer and getting that thing running again like clockwork. But the passing game was most atrocious last year. Line failed at pass pro, receivers took too long to get open when pass pro was better than putrid, and a harried JT tried to make things happen too often when nothing was there.

So the veer comes first. Everything trickles down from the veer. But the passing game needs the most improvement. Camp will be busy. Our guys are smart and tough though. I expect the ship will be righted. If there is a DC out there with mouth watering to face us, I'd be surprised.

Defenses know that if they create a negative play against our offense on first down that we are basically screwed. I noticed most teams were pinning their ears back and blitzing the gaps inside as well as blowing their safeties up the alley to kill the pitch outside on first down. I think our guys got into a mindset that if they did not make yardage on first down, the possession was basically dead. Look for more of the same next year. You have to be able to offset that from an offensive standpoint or your looking at another 2 or 3 win season. The offensive line has to learn to eliminate penetration.

Go Jackets!

I think they will use a safety instead of mlb. Duke did this very effectively last night on several plays. Also in last years game they sent safeties in second half.

Looking at football is life site I saw article about paul johnsons play calling decesion tree. It said when safeties have no respect, ee should ( at least once ) send every on on fly pattern.

No kidding the ol needs to be able to block. But the safeties are coming on hair trigger and next year I think we will get an extra one coming. Can ot get to a safety?

No doubt line play will be a big focus in the spring, as well as a lot of competition at AB. The men need to show up ready to earn their spot. I doubt any position is set in stone. I expect Burden to emerge as a leader on our line next year.

Does anyone know how JeT doing, and whether he has recovered from being dinged up during the season?

I keep thinking bout about how nice it would have been to have burry or even Vad backing JT up. Both have the height to stay in the pocket and see the recievers. I think it would have made executing some of our passing plays a bit easier.

@flea77 - I love your passion for the game. Your son had a great year, especially for a true freshman. Glad your family is GT. Wish you and yours nothing but the best. Second, @flea77 am I correct in thinking that the LT has more of a "head hunter" role than the RT in the sense that if the majority of the plays are going to the QB's right, then the left tackle is releasing down field on an angle to hit a 2nd level defender and spring a big run on the outside? or, in college, are the backside DEs so quick that will has to "pull check" and cut off containment?

Shamire was great at RG when backing up Shaq. @Justa Fan I'd love to see "little" Campbell and Shamire platoon at RG this season. If that happened, I think these ACC DT's would need to up their dose of prozak.

Lastly, I think the younger Braun will play this year. Seriously. Look at his film. Dude is a killer.

Happy holidays to all.

Damn are all of you people posting on here ol coaches as much as you all seem to know CPJ should just turn this ol over to you all since you know so much. I don't know who you all are except flea and l would say he is probably the only one on here who knows what is going on. A past gt coach told me one time if all these fans knew as much as they think they do then why in the HELL are they not doing it for a living! GO JACKETS '!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
