He's made it through 1 season without missing games for injuries. Had 2 seasons ended prematurely.

While I'm thrilled to have him at GT, will someone actually throw enough money at him to get him to move to a new program and new system for 1 year? I just don't see that happening.
Yeah...that is a good point

DJU went from being benched at Clemson to a star at Oregon State. He was getting NFL buzz. Then he transferred to FSU, and his prospects are dashed.

Players shouldn’t ignore the value of a coach that makes them look good.
Maybe shouldn't, but to a late teen/early twenties person bling and immediate cash are often more important that 5 or 20 years in the future.

Apples and oranges. Oregon State is on the West Coast in a defunct PAC10/12/2. All the coaches left for greener pastures. DJ went to FSU where he thought he would get the exposure to push him over the top. Haynes King isn't experiencing any of that. With another HEALTHY year with Weinke and Faulkner, HK may have a shot at playing at the next level somewhere. It doesn't have to be the NFL to earn a living.

Look I hope you’re right, and I certainly want him to stay. But isn’t what you’re describing Notre Dame’s model for the past couple of seasons?
1. Why stay and be second guessed if he throws more than one interception?

2. If he wants to go to nfl why stay, and be a running back?

Why stay?
3. He and family love key and gt and are trying to
"Ride our Die" to win a championship.

Are we on path for 3?
Is 1 and 2 whats going to be gt in 25?

After watching the last game I'm not too sure a big part of our passing problems would be the receivers (or the receivers coach). This year the receivers don't seem to get separation like last year and damn all the dropped passing last game. I think Crawford did a lot better good than we thought.

Why would Haynes King stay?
I just don’t know if there is a program in better shape, that is also willing to shell out enough funds to get him to leave, that Haynes would also wanna go. I think it would have to be a perennial Top 10 who has the funds, is not set at Q, and only wants a short term solution. Those programs are gonna go after someone else. That’s if he’d even leave. He’s a big part of our culture. We’d prob also match most. I’d MAYBE be more concerned about somewhere closer to home like TCU/SMU.

HK sure makes a difference when he can run and pass. He appeared limited against UNC. That type qb can make up for a lot of deficiencies. That's what makes Cam Ward so hard to defend.

DJU went from coaches who didn’t make him look good, to coaches who made him look great, to an “offensive mastermind” who made him look bad.

The point is, don’t undervalue coaches that make you look good. Fit is important

Agreed. But the coaches that made him look good weren't there anymore either. His HC from Oregon State and several of the staff went to Michigan State.

I think DJ made himself look bad. For a man his size, he's surprisingly soft.

I think the GT decision was the Haynes knows that his route to the NFL is going to happen the same way no matter where he is. Sure he might want a shot at a NC but he's got one next year. If we improve and we should have a more favorable schedule all we have to do is win the ACC to get that shot for sure.

We pick up clemson on the schedule colorado but im pretty sure that will be Sandersless colorado. Pitt is Pitt they are good this year against a relatively weak schedule. Temple gardner web as our OOC and we get wake instead of UNC. BC will be with a new QB.

The only real danger to poaching King out there is Ole Miss. King's skillset fits what kiffen does very well and i believe Dart is done after this year.

Hayes K wants to throw passes for Ga Tech on way to championship. He loves wienke and he has his own qb coach in off season to improve his throwing motion. If wienke leaves, ????

If we are able to finish strong , he will likely stay.

Rumors of nagging shoulder injury are a real drag on his value as portal qb. I hope we didn't play him while injured.

Imo, there are places that would take the accurate king that can run and put him behind a mature ol so king could pass to their expensive wr. ND is on second acc qb.

But he and his family like the gt family and feel welcomed. His dad says he loves hs foofball coaching and does not want to ever leave Longiew.

If we end up 6-6 on the 2024 season (most likely outcome), I think it’s improvement, albeit marginal.

Speaking for myself, the 2025 bar is very high… 8-4 minimum, based on needing to see marked improvement and perception of scheduling ease.

It’s hard to look past one season with how the sport has changed. Entire rosters can now be turned over in free agency - both us and all opponents too.
I’m not sure it’s fair to put it all on record alone. Strange crap happens in football that can make an 8-4 team 7-5. But for me it’s more like we look like we know what we’re doing and look like we should win games. We simply haven’t passed that test for much of this season. In fact, after week 0 we’ve looked fairly lost on offense most of the time and have been all over the place on D. The easy thing to do is chalk O up to injuries and D up to year 1 in a new scheme, but it just feels like there’s more to it than that.

Just a ton of “not expecting,” to use Key’s own words.

Yeah, the frustrating thing about this season is that it feels like:
* we should’ve beat Duke and UNC by more
* we should’ve won at least one of Syracuse and Louisville
* we should’ve scored at least one TD against VT even with backup QBs (Pyron had passed for 250yds+ the week before and in his last full start in 2022)

And yet instead we didn’t and generally look a lot less dangerous than last year despite returning the bulk of the offense.

GT still has the 24th best offense using EPA. The defense is 62nd. Using EPA, GT has the 5th best offense in the ACC, but the 12th defense. GT is averaging 422 yards of offense and allowing 323 yards of defense.

In my opinion, the big issue this year is lack of scoring. It isn't that the offense isn't moving the ball, it is that we don't end up with points at the end of drives. GT dominated Duke and UNC based on stats, yet the score was super close at UNC, and was behind in the 4th quarter against Duke.

GT had 50% more yards than VT, but couldn't turn that into points. I think a healthy Haynes and Haines, and GT would have won at VT. Even a healthy Haynes and a healthy Pyron would have won at VT. GT could lose the remaining three games and miss a bowl game. However, if everyone gets healthy in the next two weeks, I won't be surprised if we beat Miami. GA State, and Vanderbilt have proven this year that the gaps between college football teams are nowhere near the hype that SEC media makes them out to be. Having a few key players out, and having participating players sick and throwing up on the sidelines is more than enough to tilt the scale in games.

You’re not wrong, but I went through all the Gailey years rationalizing strange crap. Also it tends to only go one way (rationalizing losses but not wins).

I don’t think any of us would refer to last year’s regular season as 6*-6 or 5*-7*. We went 6-6. Cristobal’s complete inability to understand the basic concepts of how time works opened the door for GT to earn the miracle win.

But that’s the problem with stats. This offense flat out doesn’t pass the eye test. They score in the red zone and look ok on the stat sheet, but when you watch there’s just something off. A lot of it seems that as the season has progressed the defenses have just cheated up more and more since we can’t go over top.

One big stat id like to see is 3-and-out. It sure seems like we’ve been doing that a whole lot more this year than last year. Especially in our losses.
