CBK on 680: "It wasn't called... but yes I think it was"
Targeting?
"...because Dooley, state government and the SEC all went ..." I don't give a tinker's damn about the opinions of any of those people. All true.
But, my point still stands. Most people in the state see it as a ref mistake not a coach or player mistake because Dooley, state government, and the SEC, all went ape over it.
Wonder how this game will be remembered in the state? No I don’t. That was rhetorical.
Yes, we should have won. We would have won w/o OT if either the targeting or PI were correctly reviewed.Beating a dead horse here. Whether it was intentional or not we got screwed by the refs. But at the end of the day we needed one yard to win after the PI and couldn't get it...
...actually 1.5 yards since they decided to spot it half the distance instead of at the 1 like they were supposed to, but whatever. It's honestly just really sad. We should have won that game.
You know, I would be able to move on from this discussion if people would quit finding one more reason, and then one more reason, to keep blaming Tech for losing one of the best games we’ve played 6 or 7 years. This outcome was not about Tech’s lack of effort or poor play. We had one of the strongest teams in the nation beaten. What happened to change that was beyond our control.Yes, we should have won. We would have won w/o OT if either the targeting or PI were correctly reviewed.

You know how I know this is true? I have a LOT of UGAg friends on social media who (typically) gloat after every win. I have heard zip from any of them. They all know they were gifted that W, every last one of them. You’re both right. Georgia NEEDED 4-5 big breaks late in that game. Read that again. Georgia NEEDED those big breaks. That ought to make us very proud.
Unfortunately we provided them with one (fumble) and the officials obliged them with the rest.
If ANY ONE of those 4-5 things don’t happen, the outcome is different. Heck, even though uga hit the lottery and ALL of those things happened, we still had a chance to make the outcome different.
Yes, we should’ve won that game.
Yes, most of the breaks uga got down the stretch were out of our control…. And it sucks because they NEEDED every one!
No, the replays showed completely clear evidence that the ball was in fact tipped, and thus the PI (weak or not) was by rule not an actual penalty.FWIW, the only call I have real beef with is the very weak PI in the endzone, thrown by the sideline official and not the guy right behind it.
Replay showed no evidence of it being tipped, but it was definitely a ticky-tack PI that shouldn't have been called.
The targeting is...meh. I've seen that go both ways, the only egregious part is the booth not even doing a review.
See the NFL’s attempt to review PI plays. It was a complete disaster. The judgment calls need to be made by the on field officials.Yep, and I don't know how many people they have in that booth but clearly it's not enough if they are "missing" so many obvious penalties the rest of the country saw happen live. And why the booth is only allowed to flag very specific things like targeting? Why don't we allow them to flag holding or other penalties? Surely they saw the mutt OL yank our player backwards by his facemask, but they can't do anything about it?
I don't watch the NFL so I don't know what you are referring to in regards to PI calls, but I don't care if the refs on the field call no penalties and they ALL come from the booth.See the NFL’s attempt to review PI plays. Asking the Review Officials to make calls on judgment plays will lead to on field refs calling fewer penalties.
There is no perfect system. Also officiating is not a full time job for officials. Want better officials make it a full time job. Of course that is not financially feasible.
I'm less focused on the miss itself and more on the fact that the ball could have just as easily gone 2 feet to the right on that kick. Just the randomness involved with any kick.Doesn’t bother me in the least. Seriously. Players miss plays all the time. It’s part of the game. The team that makes the most plays and the fewest mistakes wins. That’s almost like a law of the jungle you can count on.
In this game I would be totally fine with Georgia winning if it were because they made more plays and fewer mistakes. I’m a Tech fan. I learned to accept that a long time ago.
But that’s not what happened. Georgia made more mistakes than Tech, from a missed field goal to outrageous holding infractions and an egregious spear tackle. Tech also made more plays, as all the stat lines indicate. So, our missed field goal doesn’t bother me. That’s stuff that is just part of the game like uga’s missed field goal.
But that’s just me.
Ok just google the NFL and PI review year. You will get an understanding of why that is a terrible idea to have the booth become the review for all penalties. Should some others be reviewable - sure but all no way.I don't watch the NFL so I don't know what you are referring to in regards to PI calls, but I don't care if the refs on the field call no penalties and they ALL come from the booth.
At the rate P4 officials are paid, the teams involved should be more than able to cover the cost of 22 extras in the booth to watch individual players each play.
