wins the backup spot behind MJ, how long before TM gets moved to Aback?
Seems like he would be one of our top 2-3 Abacks and could contribute in a major way at that position. I kind of hope TM gets moved to Aback around second week of fall practice for several reasons:
1) means MJ is healthy and we are going to have an experienced QB playing against Tenn
2) Jay Jones is a stud and has beat out TM for backup
3) TM could be a serious weapon as an Aback and I love the thought of having him on the field a lot of the same time with MJ or Jay Jones

I think Lucas is going to be the odd man out and either moves to WR or transfers next year. Would be nice to have another stud WR with last name Johnson

Don't count LJ out of race. He has the nicest touch on his throws of all the qb's and he's a pretty nifty runner in his own right. If he can get his reads and decision making down, look out.
I don't think we know that LJ has the nicest touch. Most of us have only seen him throw in one game. It's been said the Jones throws the best ball and that was coming from his teammate.

Regardless, we're in a great spot and CPJ has some tough decisions ahead of him. First and foremost, whose the starter? Then, what do you do with all the rest?

I dont understand all the love for Jones over LJ. It is still a toss up and as it has been pointed out the ability to make proper reads, decision making, and ability to run this offense will be major criteria selecting starter.
IMO the thing going for Jones is how much did ankle affect his performance in SG. He performed amazingly well with a gimpy ankle.

I think Taquon and Jay would both make good AB but just by listening to CPJs comments Jay will be our starter at some point during his career. It seems Taquon is MJs insurance policy until Jays decision making is up to par, then I believe he ends up being moved when Jay is our #2 guy. I really hope Lucas can get his own package as @AE 87 said because I can't really see him at any other position and would hate to lose him. Tobias is another guy I can't see at another position and has a lot of work to do to get on the field.

MJ will be our starter and it will be his job to lose for his remaining 2 years. The only person I see unseating MJ is Jay and that all depends on how solid MJ performs. If MJ plays sloppy then CPJ might see his risk/reward factor point toward Jay and MJ will be back in his roll as a goal line QB.

I think a lot of people thought Lucas was gonna be nipping at MJs heels for the starting job but after all of the comments CPJ has said about Jay and watching the spring game it seems Lucas is our #4 guy right now. That could very well change at any point, I'm a fan of having a really good passer in this offense and last year passing the ball effectively is what made us successful. If Jay has a hard time hitting passes his stock could fall quickly and Lucas would be right there waiting for the opportunity.

I don't understand why we did not redshirt Marshall last year...
One of the more infuriating things, everytime I see his class say (Jr) it bothers me he isn't still a soph.

Can he apply for a medical redshirt (if you dont play in the last 8 games of the season)?

Lucas was not my #4 after watching the SG. I don't see anyone as a clear cut #2 right now. There is not even a clear cut #1 except for MJ having an amazing win in a very hostile environment against a DC who has been tough on us. Our D played well that game and showed why D wins championships. Even the best Os have TOs and the TO battle winner is usually the game winner.

We will have a package for LJ to contribute at QB.
Another poster mentioned that he was with the 1s in passing drills. Some others have liked how he throws, his size, and his TD run in the spring game run. Is this what makes you think he'll have a package? Is there anything else we are missing?

No inside info. Just inferring from public data.

I am torn over this discussion. I blame Gtswarm for my personal battle. This web destination has given me a close up of all 4 of these young men from the recruiting process through our spring game. These guys all seam to carry themselves well on and off the field. I find myself feeling guilty when I play coach for a day and force myself to pick Jay Jones as the one of the four that has the most dynamic play making ability . He and Lucas have the most up side and in my opinion could have made things very interesting had they arrived as freshman with Josh, Tevin, Vad or Justin. Thank god I am playing coach for the day. Thank god PJ is coach for 365 and I can go back to my arm chair.

What we have is called a luxury. A guy like TM is a proven athlete and someone you want to find a way to get the ball in his hands in space no matter where he is playing. There are plenty of these guys on other teams that line up at WR and get the ball on sweeps and reverses, screens, and occasionally in the passing game. And often also line up at wildcat QB.

Strangely, we really aren't built that way. Wildcat QB makes no sense given the base offense, and that hybrid WR/RB/athlete guy is basically an AB anyway, but we lose the advantage of a special package or trick plays designed just for them. We have a few (see: the leap), but not many.

I thought going into the year if he weren't clear #1 or #2 he should switch to AB. I'm not so sure now. He would certainly get into the rotation at AB, but we have depth there and studs too (Quay, CL, Green), and I fully expect Cottrell and Jarrett to contribute smoothly.

I think keeping him at QB but trying to preserve the redshirt makes the most sense. A lot can change with an injury or 2 at QB. Same goes for AB.

Things will be a lot clearer by mid-season. And if we can preserve a redshirt, 2 years of him having a major role in the offense is better than playing him in spot duty this year.

I would put TM at maybe #5 at AB behind Clinton Lynch, Qua Searcy, JJ Green, and Nate Cottrell. These guys are specialists who have been studying and playing nothing but that position for years. I would put TM at probably #5 at WR behind Ricky Jeune, Brad Stewart, Jalen Camp, and Stephen Dolphus...and maybe more. For the same reason.

TM's best position is at QB where he knows the plays and can run the plays probably better than everyone, except maybe Matthew Jordan. Jay Jordan and Lucas Johnson I believe give us more upside that the other 2 QBs, but are still so young in this offense. Unfortunately TM is a great guy and a great athlete that is just a hair behind people at multiple positions.
