How Much Time Is Reasonable To Evaluate CDS?

I don’t know what people are watching. Do they comment on offense in the middle of the game not realizing Lance Terry is now out with injury and a 7 man rotation includes Souare & Mutumbo? We are down to walk-ons in the backcourt left.
I don’t even feel bad anymore. Too many injuries. Too many players that don’t shoot well. It is what it is.

He does have assistant coaches doesn't he?
Feels like more coaches than healthy players right now - CDS is the CEO, at the end of the day, it’s his offensive formula. Don’t understand why we don’t run specific action to get Baye a clean catch in low post position, or Javian off a couple screens. With our major offensive slumps, how can we not have some specific player action?!!

I appreciate others having restraint about firing CDS, and I’m typically in the wait and see camp especially since I really liked the hire, but I’ve seen enough. Players aren’t improving under him. Miles Kelly going from a terrific free throw shooter to above average was a red flag. Amaree Abram going from promising player at Ole Miss, to permanent bench warmer for us, and now look at his stats and he’s a solid player again is concerning. Baye and Nait don’t look like guys who improved year over year. This team is not an untalented one. Neither was last years imo. We are underperforming with our current talent level. At some point, you have to look at the coach.

They’ll blame everything but the coaching. It’s a remarkable phenomenon

I think the problem is that Lance Terry is the whole offense. PG play can still keep things moving, but not if PG constantly dribbles into trouble without a thought as to how to get out of it. Something is just not right.

I’m not overly critical, but this is a coddling assessment. Whether or not Terry is on the bench injured has no bearing on whether or not the 5 scholarship athletes on the court, most of whom have been highly touted at some point or other, are capable of executing some semblance of an effective offensive game plan.

Lance is a stud, knockdown shooter but every look he was going to get last night was going to be contested. He might have made 1 or 2 but it wouldn't have made a difference in the outcome.

This team has multiple guys that can shoot the lights out - I've seen proof of it against bottom-of-the-totem-pole D1 athletes when they generate open, in-rhythm looks. The million dollar question is how can we generate them those same looks when the athlete-disparity is no longer present. To just look at the 35% FG percentage in our box score last night and say the guys can't shoot isn't a diagnosis that I have a ton of faith in.

Well said.
So much of what we’re trying to do starts with pick and roll or dribble drive off of weave motion. We aren’t getting defenders in conflict with either of those right now, so whomever is catching the ball on the kick out is kind of irrelevant… they aren’t getting good looks so they won’t look like good shooters.
If you tell me Lance and OBrien would stretch the D, then I’d reply that we should be getting more open looks now with the D packed in… but we aren’t. The ball doesn’t move enough or fast enough.

Not that we will abandon philosophy but if we could get a couple of bodies back (or even rotate deep bench guys) we should go all in on pressure D and transition. We seem to move the ball better in transition, but we don’t generate enough of those opportunities. We don’t even have enough guys to play that way, sadly

Can always count on you to rile things up. Do you honestly think that all our problems this season (or even this loss) can attributed to Damon or just poor coaching?

Pastner was my guy, I was always and always will be a staunch defender, but I have no blind affinity for Damon. That said, I don't see how anyone can pin this season entirely on him.

There's plenty of blame to go around.... there's a long list of reasons why we are in the boat we are in.

All? No.

Failure to adjust the offensive scheme to fit the roster? Yes

18 games in and he’s got the 12lb sledge out beating that square peg into a round hole, destroying the peg and the board.

It’s not my intent to rile things up. I DGAF if anyone agrees with me. But I’m gonna say what I’m thinking.

If CDS can recruit elite players depite this teams play, there is hope for him and the program. My fear was / is, will recruits be turned off by this year's performance. If so, he's toast.

Yes Damon & poor coaching I am thinking he has the I played in the NBA disease. He just looks clueless at times and makes me wonder does he listen to advice from others. We have struggled the last 20 yrs to find that set of dudes to lead our team and turn the program around.CJP was a good coach and person felt the goofy side of him may have turned off certain recruits. We lose both guards this year I don't think that we improve much without getting at least 2 proven guys out of the portal and make changes on the bench.I also feel we need to unlock Mustaf's complete game now for next year he should have started last night so we could avoid that scoring drought early on.
