How many All-America / All Conf for 2018?

Not so much how many will make it. But how many guys do we have that have the potential to make All-America or All Conference at years end?

On OL I think we have 3 that have that potential if they are healthy and stay that way. Not saying all 3 will do so, I just think the possibility exists for Braun, Cooper, and Bryan. One monkey wrench other than staying healthy is if they can stay at G,C,G all year.

QB. Big if but....if TQN can make big strides in the passing game he could. Not much arguing he has elite ability toting the rock.

RB. Clinton Lynch. But limited touches hurt the chances of all our skill guys except the QB. We distribute the ball a lot more than most teams.

I don’t think anyone else on O has a great shot but breakout years happen. Here’s to hoping.

On Defense. I think Branch is the only one that I think shows obvious potential in the new scheme thus far.

Doesn’t lend to reasons for high hopes of a stellar season (except OL) but the sum of the parts is so much more important than the individual pieces.

Hopefully everyone improves and some breakout. That plus the new scheme on D....who knows? Maybe it will all make for a perfect mix. Can’t wait for Fall ball.

Benson has a good shot at all Conference if he turns in another year like last year.

Harvin is probably a lock unless we don't need him much.

Brant will probably end up second team.

Don't forget that Georgia Tech is the most underrated, overlooked, disrespected team out there. So you can start with logic behind your predictions, but then you have to cut that list way down because nobody likes or appreciates us.

For example, last year TaQuon was 3rd in rushing yards in the ACC and 2nd in rushing touchdowns. Did that get him 1st team? No. Did it get him 2nd team? No. Did it get him 3rd team? No. Did it get him honorable mention? No. And I'm going from memory, but I recall Clinton Lynch having more total yards in 2016 than several of the backs and all purpose guys that got All Conference, but he didn't get it then either.

So screw the ACC and screw the awards, lets just go win games.

It's hard for an AB to crack the all conference teams due to their role being incomparable to other positions in typical NCAA offenses.

I think someone is going to put up some numbers in Woody's defense that will get at least 2nd team based on that. I think Victor Alexander will be the guy, racking up a good number of TFL and sacks, even if he really isn't the best player on the defense.

Offensively, I expect TQM to crack the list if we have a good year. He'll put up numbers and I do think the passing will improve even if it's still in line with other Johnson QBs. Possible his rush yards go way down depending on how the defenses attack us and the health of the OL (see: Justin Thomas 2015). But I think we're in much better shape there than 2015. TQM has inside running ability and will get some TD in the red zone, and we have experience and talent and good blockers on the edges, so forcing things there will be a dangerous strategy.

Multiple other guys will have a chance but it's harder to predict.

If you think Marshall's 1150 yards rushing and 900 yards passing on 37% deserved all conference recognition I really don't know what to tell you. That's not disrespect. Marshall didn't have that good a year last year. 1150 yards is good, but it doesn't stand out, and certainly not enough to make up for the passing being as bad as it was. And the offense was hardly humming and not exactly what you can point to and say "he was leading a great offense though".

What? Lynch had ~900 receiving and rushing yards combined in 2016. He didn't do returns for us. The backs who made the team were Dalvin Cook, James Connor, Matthew Days, Wayne Gallman, Mark Walton, and Elijah Hood. All of them except Hood had more rushing yards than Lynch had total and Hood had more overall yards.

You’re comparing the wrong things to the wrong things in both cases.

Well let me say it a different way. Our offense runs differently than most everyone else. So in my (obviously biased) opinion, the folks who vote on all conference players shouldn't be so quick to try and put our guys into a particular box because that box is what they play in.

Case and point #1 - I don't care where you line up - QB, RB, WR, Slot Back, TE - if you lead arguably the best football conference in the country in a major statistical category like passing yards or rushing yards or receiving yards or touchdowns, you should be on an all conference team of some sort, be it 1st team, 2nd team, 3rd team, or honorable mention. If you compare TaQuon to other passing quarterbacks, I wouldn't vote him in that way either. But we ran the ball 85% of the time, so its pointless to compare our guys to other people that way. I just don't see how a guy that finishes 2nd in touchdowns and 3rd in rushing yards in the top football conference in the country doesn't finish on any of the 4 award teams...especially given sometimes multiple people at the same position get the award on each team.

Case and point #2 - Clinton Lynch 2016: 905 total yards from scrimmage, 8 TDs, 20 yards PER TOUCH.
Look at some of the guys who made all conference in 2016 (total yards from scrimmage):
Artavis Scott: 625 yards, 5 TDs
James Quick: 769 yards, 6 TDs
Stacy Coley: 754 yards, 9 TDs, 12 yards per touch.
Bucky Hodges: 733 yards, 7 TDs
Elijah Hood: 1000 yards, 8 TDs, 5.8 yards per touch.
Ervin Philips: 840 yards, 7 TDs, 8.5 yards per touch
Bug Howard: 827 yards, 8 TDs.

With Clinton Lynch, they want to either classify him as an RB or an WR, instead of (in my opinion) classifying him as an APB (all purpose back) which is what he is, so that you can count yards from scrimmage. I don't see how any reasonable person can compare what he did in 2016 to this partial list of guys who got an award and make any sort of defensible argument about why Clinton Lynch was left out.

I’ll admit, I don’t see how his argument is invalid, JMO. I do agree with half of what you said and half of what he said though lol. So I think I’m right :D and the truth is somewhere in between.

I think if we had won a bunch of games, TM would probably have been considered, but the decent stats don't count for anything but stats if you don't win.

Braun; some of the D guys might put up crazy numbers in this system. I would say Benson, but seems likely that he'll split carries more this year.

Our offense has reputation of putting s up really really big numbers against lessor teams teams .
Also
When we fall on our face in last 3 games against so so teams and uga and of the 12 passes that were caught, the other team caught 4 of them. We were passing at 23% in those games. Thats terrible even if he is a jacket.

After the last 3 games in 14 and the first 2 in 15 , i was confident we had turned the corner. I felt we could give ND a bxxt whipping. Oh my!

We had 600 plus yds offense per game in the first 2 games of 15 and ditto the first game in 17.
Coaching matters
In the 3 games in 14 we were very good but the defensive coordinators were in experienced . The high yardage games in 15/ 17 = those coaches lost thier jobs..

2018 Its Time!!
Till we beat the CRAP out of a few good team, our stats are going to be considered as padded.

If we get rolling on both sides of the ball it could be shock to the acc. I really like this team

I totally agree with him too. I mean he’s only disagreeing with me based on the rules. I’m just saying the rules aren’t always fair when you look at how we run our offense.
