That's something I don't think folks are considering.

Quite possible, but it would be a shame if the new AD let that color his thinking. His job is to do what's best for Georgia Tech athletics.

Key has already made huge strides in getting the team to rally behind him and it looks like the players have bought into what he is selling As well. That being hard nosed, real football. I don’t think it is a stretch to say that Key has this team Well in hand and it’s only been 2 weeks. We will surely know more in 2 more weeks.

I have no expectation that Key will be hired. On the contrary, I certainly hope the new AD will do his or her due diligence and make the best and most informed decision Regardless of who gets the nod. I hope. Because last time it was a really BAD decision and TBH we have made a lot of bad decisions.

But the goodwill is with Key right now for me. He doesn’t have to keep it close with Georgia for consideration, NOBODY in our league can keep it close with Georgia. So it’s like those advocating such are setting him up to fail. Forget Georgia. It is an unreasonable expectation at this time.

I want to see Key keep it close with the rest of the ACC teams, which is NOT unreasonable. Six wins means a hire for me. GTAA funds are a problem due to past idiotic decisions. Key just might stay for less than we can get anyone else. He loves the school and knows how things are academically and recruit wise at the Institute. He wants GT to do well, not in the way that that former guy calling himself coach G**** C****** wanted Tech to do well. Key’s interest more intimate.

Gonna be honest, I didn’t think I would be this way. I would have wanted the current homecoming queen Chadwell. But after a few games,
and reason starts to set in and I see what Key has done in so short a time with just basic common knowledge change as we might all have made ourselves, I am interested in watching him really closely. Someone else stated, and I agree - seems a lot like Phil Fulmer. Not a bad deal for us if it turns out to be true.

The caveat is that the changes Key has already made for 2 wins aren’t all that special - it’s just stuff we would all have already done, too. So I still need to see a little more, but competitiveness with UGA isn’t one of them. Win 3 more and I’m a buyer, because I have to think Key at the helm would’ve gotten UCF also.

If I am wrong, fine. But my bet is that we are gonna take these next games for 3-4 wins.

This is fair but it's also fair to analyze the finishes to both games, particularly Duke. That should've been a blowout.

The most important thing about the finishes of both games by a country mile is that both ended up as Ws. That's the bottom line.

LOLOL, for the record, I've gone back and forth a billion times on what I would call those formations, but I'd ACTUALLY probably call it:
11, Gun-Left, Flip, Tight Right (unless I had names for my formations).

Haven’t watched it all but I’m going with a pass play for my favorite so far... just over 8 minutes in second qtr (about 3:10 in video)...
The sweep motion left with the TE “arc” blocking the safety. The view from behind is priceless... the safety jumps outside of the TE to avoid the block.... oh $#*!.. not a block! QB totally misses the throw (I think?!? Could they possibly? Nah...) and the TE makes takes his eyes off the ball and makes an awesome catch on his outside shoulder.
I saw the highlight on TV from the sideline angle, but the endzone angle here was nuts!

The new AD will be in a pickle if Key keeps winning and gets us to bowl-game. If he keeps him and we are bad next year it will be 'what an idiot'! If he brings in his coach and we don't get to a bowl game next year it will be 'what an idiot!' I would say that's why they make the big-bucks, but I'm not sure that's true for ADs.

If Key keeps winning then he is the safe choice by a new AD. GT alum, turned the team around, showed he can win. If Key falters in a few years, then he makes a change without bias. No reason to start off with the alums on a bad foot. At least make a fair contract this time for BOTH sides.

Both games should have been blowouts, with 3 score differentials. We went prevent on Pitt and allowed them to score 2 TD's at the end of the game.

We had FIVE “2-minute” style drives against us in the last two games. Pitt ended the first half with points and then back to back quick TD drives at the end of the game
Duke for one at the end of the half (FG) and one to end the game
Of the five we defended, FOUR went for TD and one went for FG. Something feels rotten there and I hope it’s corrected before it costs us a game.

Which programs with current open positions or likely open positions do you think are going to go after him?

Some coaches from FCS will move up to new jobs or get fired. He has proven he has HC potential. Teams like App State, JMU, etc, may get their coach poached. Good job for moving up.

I think this is accurate, keeping key isn’t a black mark against new AD if Key fails. And he would be cheaper (opinion, I have no basis other than nobody else is going after him to date).

Geez, we'd be 8-4 and going to Charlotte if that happened. A bad UGA loss has been expected by the fan base since before the season even started.

And Pitt! Pitt had 21 points on 2-minute drives. Duke had 10. I guess I get WHY you do it, but if we’re gonna get beat deep anyway, stay aggressive right?!?

The consulting firm is to make sure we are doing our due diligence and getting the necessary information so that we can make the decision for the right reasons. If anything, it would increase the confidence in hiring Brent Key (if that is indeed what happens) because it would mean that many others were considered, but Brent Key was still found to be the best man for the job.
