Collins isn’t dumb. If Patenaude proves himself inept then he’ll be gone. Collins won’t let Patenaude stop his career. Collins is a ladder climber who won’t be held back. We aren’t use to that around here. We’ve had the end of career type coaches for 20 years between Gailey and Johnson where GT was a landing spot for comfort. Collins is that guy we all know at work who may suck up, be a little odd, lives at the office, has no life, will do whatever it takes to move up the ladder. We may not necessarily like those types because they make us look soft, but we also admire them because it works. Collins has dragged his family all over this country to land finally get his dream job. He isn’t going to let one guy stop him. That’s why I’m all in. Heck of a recruiter and a ladder climber. Give me hungry all day long.

I hope you are right...
The question is how many years averaging less than 20 ppg and ~40 three and outs will he put up with?
Just remember when he finally cans dave we will be starting over again with a new scheme.
The sooner we find a young ambitious offensive coordinator the better.

@Techster You’re dead on with Sims. All I’ll add is I hope we don’t rush him. He may need a year to ripen before he’s thrown head on into the mix. Many a young man have been ruined forcing responsibilities upon them before they were ready. Not saying one approach or kid is necessarily a better choice than another but how this gets handled will likely define CGC’s entire tenure. It’s why he gets the big bucks.

It takes a special QB to succeed as a freshman. I’m not sure Sims is as polished as a Lawrence or even a Sam Howell to the point I’d want him to start immediately, but he’s an incredibly gifted athlete. I could definitely see a package of plays developed to get him early playing time. Seeing him in the backfield will our trio of running backs with his size and speed will be nice.

Following him since his commitment, you can tell how much work he puts in. This guy is dedicated to being a proper QB and not just relying on his physical tools to get it done. That makes me think it might take a little longer to get there but his ceiling is way higher. Seeing his approach to the game makes me think of Lamar Jackson. His build obviously helps make that comparison, but I'm referring to his actual game. Sims doesn't have Lamar's wheels, but then again no one else ever has (even Vick or Johnny Football at the college level), so he can't ride a busted zone read to a Heisman as a freshman. But Lamar dedicated himself to learning to be a QB instead of an athlete. That meant he didn't really get better results overall in college than when he was relying on raw athleticism, but he's worked his way to NFL MVP with plenty of room for growth from there. Totally different body, different system, and different pro potential, but Lil Joe is another who had the lights turn on when he could start connecting what he was learning with his muscle memory.
Dedication to beimg a proper QB makes me think of Peyton Manning, and heck yeah if we get someone of his caliber.

FSU sucks yall. 5 picks in a scrimmage. If we come out and lose I’m going to be very worried. Their best frosh QB is hurt. With our Secondary and their Trash OL, if we don’t dominate on Defense in this game I’ll be nervous about Collins going forward.

Well of course there would be a new scheme. But, whatever the new scheme is likely to be similar personal player techniques across the board. Sure, there would be new terminology, different types of plays called, different procedures for things- that stuff is pretty easily overcome. Quite different than going from CPJ to CDP.

Kinda weird judging an offense in its first year of install with personnel that doesn’t fit.

That said the jackets should look to Corey Dennis as an OC, if they gonna make a switch in the near future.
