Maybe not, which is why we need a spotter watching the TV monitor. But I usually do keep track of yardage needed, with or without a yellow line.

I do not think it was done intentionally to help VT. However, It was an egregious error that never should have happened at the level of that game. the action, however early in the game had a profound impact on the outcome. The person responsible for the gaff should be terminated.

Me too. I saw it myself, it being the end result that he wad a yard short. I was confused by the first down call, but hadn’t seen them move the chains.

The other thing that made me mad about that play was the ref called it a first down without the side judge even spotting the ball. He just looked at where they were at and basically said yeah, that's close enough.

Key and the entire Defensive staff & the players on defense were asleep at the wheel. Every play you know where 1st down is at. That we were asleep at the wheel and not just one person but the whole damn Defensive staff plus players is just mind boggling. Not 1 person was engaged in the game. I’d even have expected the innocent bystanders to notice, but nope they were in La La land as well. Not a good look.

This is nothing compared to the failure to call time out before the WIDE OPEN 20 YDS TD PASS ON TRICK PLAY - NO ONE WITH IN 10 YDS PASS. KNOWING 44 OUT AND WE MIGHT HAVE INEXPERIENCED LB , Vt coaches game planned the r tackle over with pass eligible TE lined up next to left guard. They called the play after a gash play as the ran down and quickly set up.

Our LB were lost so no body guarded the TE.
Clearly a different formation. Clearly young LB waving arms.

That is standard practice now and you see it all the time. The sideline official looks at where the official with the ball is standing and just waves the chains forward, It appears to be an attempt to get away from actual measurements which frankly are no more accurate as spotting a ball is pure judgment in the first place.

The chains were actually moved between 1st and second down. At that point, after an eight-yard gain on first, what should have been second and two became second and one. I guess it was a blunder, but I'd like to know how it happened that the chain was moved back a yard.

This is the kind of crap that happens at an 8 year old county rec league, not Power 4 NCAA football. The officiating crew should have noticed, but didn't. With the whole thing being on video, there really needs to be some accountability, starting with the chain gang and including the officials.

Wouldn’t still be going on if we didn’t get the same old lame “oh yeah GT got screwed again” response from the ACC AND “…it was an admin mistake no biggie” from our own staff.

Apparently you have to diddle someone you shouldn’t to get fired because that disaster of multiple Special Teams units ain’t enough to get you canned.

However, we had our chance to stop that drive after the cheat, but we didn’t. We had half the game to score again, but we didn’t.

Might they have kicked the FG instead? Possibly. Then the way the game finishes out, it’s 17-6 instead of 21-6.

Was it wrong and does it need to be publicly addressed by the ACC? Yes. It is no reflection on GT though.

Just my $.02 worth.

You're underestimating how important momentum is in football. It could have definitely changed how the game played out.

Perhaps. I would counter that you are overestimating any momentum that GT might have had in that game. I cannot remember any. Do you? If so, please describe. I missed it.
