Just posted this elsewhere but insiders are reporting Philo won’t play today to maintain his redshirt. We’re going with King and Pyron. Insane if true.

You can foot the $500k+ RS SR NIL payday you’re asking him to throw away if you want him to play tonight.
He’ll get way more than that on the open market somewhere else. Stupid in this day and age. You play for today. I don’t like it, but it’s where we are.

If that’s the reason there’s gonna be a lot of brand new Graham Knowles fans lol
Any board member saying they would skip a 6-7 figure payday to play against georgia is delusional. And I hate the dawgs - I'm still taking the paycheck. Sorry.

There's certainly a logic behind preserving the redshirt - trading one game as a freshman for all 12 for the next four years. And for all we know, Philo may stick around that long. And Pyron might have a burning desire to prove himself tonight, in fact, I would bet on it. And I wouldn't count him out.

You’re taking a lot for granted in that scenario.
Which is why I mentioned Knowles - if that’s truly the reason, it would be quite ironic to lose that payday by getting passed on the depth chart. The best way to climb the depth chart and hold onto a spot at the top is to play. And the best way to get paid is to be at the top and playing.

If a redshirt decision is coming from Key that’s different, but give me players who want to play today vs counting their chickens four years down the road. EDIT: Or, of course, it’s different if there’s staff thinks King has it today and we hopefully won’t need the backup as much anyway.

As far as we know King will be back post-surgery and Philo can sit a lot next year anyway.

Hell, in this reported scenario, look at Pyron - reportedly passed on the depth chart, thought likely to transfer, still injured - and playing.

Hope the game is close, win or lose, but agree that uga knows what their assignment is in this game. If they don’t handle business decisively their playoff hopes are in jeopardy. My hope is that their mental mindset of wanting to take care of Tech early and coast into the SEC championship gets them in trouble. If Tech puts up stiff resistance to that uga could get frustrated and press too hard causing mistakes.
Beck in particular has a habit of making bad interceptions trying to make things happen. We need to get in this game early if the upset is gonna be in play.

He can just redshirt next year. Play him tonight
There's a downside to not having him available for all 12 games next year. This is a complicated situation with several moving parts. Key is weighting all the variables, and he may have more faith in Pyron than we do. He also may know more about his physical situation, and King's as well. Let's not give up on Zach. I believe he'll be out there giving it all he's got. I don't have any doubt of it.

That is against Key's philosophy on red shirts. He has said multiple times those are determined at the end of the year. Someone is rumor mongering the same way they are with Batt
