Just reading by the box scores, they’re 1-2 and got thrashed by Northwestern. However, we’ve watched ACC teams have terrible losses to start the season lately. I would think that a motivated and energetic GT squad playing disciplined basketball should be able to walk out with a safe win, but if we play like BC or Louisville have lately it’ll be embarrassing.

Sagarin seems to say we should be about a 13 point favorite on a neutral site, and 15.5 at home. NIU was a few points closer to Northwestern than that in their game.

I think UNC and Duke might be able to roll a ball out and win, but we can’t sleep on anyone.

Despite having played two D2 schools they rank 290th or worse in almost every major offensive metric.

Some of their defensive numbers are bloated (holding opponents to 22.7% from 3) likely due to level of competition.

I'm more interested in NIU staying within 17 of Northwestern than the D2 games. For a team ranked around 290 or so, I'd rather see Northwestern (and us) blow them out by 30. They're D1, though.

Simple explanation is that Northwestern isn’t very good despite some nice pieces. They were down to Georgetown at the half last night and the Hoyas might be the worst team in the P6

There were bright spots in the second half, but there were more bad minutes than good. Fortunately, we had a 23 point lead at halftime.

So, we actually “lost” the second half by 5 points. Glad to have the win, but the film review is going to be harsh.

That was some bad basketball the first 10 minutes of the second half.

That was some good basketball in the first half.

Jeckyl and Hyde team?

I was impressed with the energy level that we had most of the game, I believe spearheaded by Smith. I wish Franklin was taller.

It’s really nice to have distributed scoring again. The boards on defense are going to be really frustrating this season - we are getting owned there by bad teams against these small ball lineups.
