I'm illiterate.

Interested in seeing what their new Head Coach has done with that offense. Gave NC State a scare last week, and put up 80+ on a crappy team this week. FWIW, NC State beat Old Dominion 46-34 this week and trailed 21-18 at the half.
i witnessed the eagles run outta gas last week in raleigh. tough to watch. i figured they'd leave a gouge on sav st. tonight after last week's disappointing loss to state that never should have happened. left tonight's game at paulson at the beginning of the 4th. i think fritz had suited up the SHS JV squad to take the field by then. good thing about beating them so badly is we didn't have to hear their annoying band play all night.

i told the state fans around me last week they were gonna be in for another tough game this week versus ODU. their QB is one of the best QBs i've ever seen play live. kid's friggin' dynamite. if he'd been a few inches taller outta HS he'd have been big time on the FBS radar.

gonna be strange next week to be at bobby dodd to watch my two teams play each other.

Saw that GSU passed like 4 times all game...only 2 passes by the starter?

How do you like that new offense so far?

As it was last year, my thing in the first three games is to get a one point win. With a new QB in our O, that's about what you have to wish for. I think all that will sort itself out by the time we go up to the Turkies. Looks like that will be a contest, though I think OSU is really having OL and QB problems (why do they keep throwing to 84?).

Well, now we need to get our chinstraps tight for GSU. The interesting thing about this part of the season is that the teams we are playing are not turning out to be pushovers. That ups the suspense, but it'll do us good later.

Did anybody comment on the super weird play at the end of the 3rd quarter, where the horn blew, and half the players stopped, and Justin threw an interception into double coverage?

think there were 5 total passes--2 for long TDs. and, i don't mean short passes with long runs but long passes right on the money to WRs. the only dropped pass would have been a TD. the receiver was so open he dropped the friggin ball. oops! ellison's 1st pass was a gorgeous over the shoulder TD pass to WR he hit in stride. couldn't have been better thrown. we always knew he had an arm but it just wasn't used under monken. as with GT it was run, run, run, then throw on the usual down and distance that even stevie wonder knows is coming. ellison only played about a third of the game and rotated quite a bit with the back up, upshaw, during the first half. the 3rd string QB played the majority of the 2nd half.

the new O still has flashes of the old one. yes, it's outta the gun but still a good bit of option. southern has speed to burn at all O skill positions and a very seasoned OL who've played together for years. big, big strength of the team. breida is the starting RB. speedster. if he gets to the 2nd level he's a threat to go the distance with a hint of daylight. a number of solid receiving targets underutilized when monken was at the helm are getting to show their true talent with fritz onboard. this O will put up a lot of points this season if they stay healthy.

the big question mark is going to be depth of the D. it bit the eagles in the butt versus NC state. i've been to some scorching games but that was one of the hottest contests i've ever sat through. ZERO breeze and every bit of 100+ temps at field level. you've gotta be able to sub in fresh DL on days like that. i read that state was rotating 8 DL consistently. with southern's move up, they're still building up to 85 schollies. i think they're around 70 schollies on the current roster (somewhere in that neighborhood). it takes a few years in transition to build up the necessary depth--particularly on D. i know folks last year liked to talk about how hurt FL was when we suited up versus them but the eagles were even more decimated of talent. i think monken said after the game we had 40 scholarship players available to play. so, the idea FL was beat up and southern was at full strength couldn't be further from the truth. we were a MASH unit out there.

i'm anxious to see how both teams fair this weekend. i'm not making any bets one way or the other. i do know if GS plays to their potential, it's a winnable game. if GT plays to their potential southern shouldn't be within two TDs at the end.

Taylor Heinicke (ODU QB) is from my high school. The guy is an absolute stud. I have a good feeling we'll see his name called in the 2015 draft

i'd have to agree. i went over and checked the NC state forum and they're beating their D up over the game but hardly giving any props to the fact that ODU has an incredible QB. i did see one post where a state fan tried to reality check the others and mention how good heinicke is, but they just don't want to see it. he put on one of the most deadly accurate, ice-water-in-the-veins passing exhibitions i've witnessed in a game. southern won in a shootout 55-48. neither D had a prayer. they couldn't stop the option and we couldn't stop him!

I absolutely hated the color commentary. To me, the guy sounded like he copied someone else's notes from last year instead of doing his real homework. Based on his comments, I doubt he watched Tech's game last week.

Seriously, he probably has known for months that he was doing this game. You'd think he'd do some research on the team. If he'd spent a day reading through old GTSwarm threads he would have sounded so much smarter than he did. It's amazing how much of a gold mine this site would be to a non-connected color guy. There are tons of nuggets on this site.
I agree. It was even said at one point that Days was the back up quarterback last year. That was really misleading and neglected the fact that it has been several seasons since he was really considered more than a "wild cat" type under center. Very shallow reporting.

CPJ said in the post-game presser (@2:11 mark) that we needed to value the ball more and that we can't throw it falling down off the back foot.

Also, in his post-game radio interview, which I don't think was posted online, CPJ said it was a bad playcall as well.

Why people don't turn down the volume and listen to the radio call on any football game is beyond me!

Or the nola.com Tulane beat writer who called Byerly Tech's short-yardage specialist QB. While he does come in on goal line situations, the way it reads it makes it sound like that's all he does. And JT played in all the short-yardage situations last week.

Remember that McKinnon was the QB for so long - and was playing other positions too - so the air game wasn't exactly a priority, even going into last year. And when you've got McKinnon/Swope on the field in any combination, I wouldn't throw it much, either. Besides, against Savannah State, why bother throwing it. There's just no need when they cannot even stop the dive.
Ellison's a player, and what I was told was that Ramsby would have been the guy over Ellison if he hadn't gotten hurt. Very good point about the O line - very veteran group still trying to get the hang of doing much more zone blocking than in the past.
Southern's depth on defense, or veritable lack of it, was painfully exposed against a fairly ordinary NC State team, which does have some athletes. Wasn't a big fan of Curtis' work as DC previously (think Brent Pry is having second thoughts about turning the GSU HC job down now?), and a game like Savannah State really shows you nothing about your defense in any way, shape or form. The NC State game confirmed some suspicions I had - there is no depth and the secondary is still shaky at best. Those last three drives the Wolfpack had guys wide open nearly every play.

I have the new Android app and tried listening to the game and watching, but the radio delay was always a play behind. Maybe you guys who live in Atlanta can do that, but the delay kills the experience.

Having said that, I turned off the TV for a while and listened. Roddy is damn good!
