The great unwashed buy into it, so it's worth something. That doesn't mean their methodology is solid. In fact, it's not. But, that doesn't change perception. Just look at what the SEC has accomplished in football.

Regardless, I know I couldn't get in if I had my 1974 grades and SAT.

Yeah, but you, today, wouldn't have your 1974 grades and SAT. You'd have the same grades and SAT scores that the kids getting in today do. (or you would have gone somewhere else, had more fun, and not have PTSD 40 years later).

We're #36 in the 2023 Times Higher Education World University Rankings. Also #69 in the US College Rankings which includes schools like Williams, Amherst, etc.
