Until we prove otherwise, we are in the 50ish range -or 3-5 wins depending on injuries mainly
Reasonable, but at the moment, based on what I saw last year, I don't think we are that highly rated but Tech is one of those teams with a relatively high floor compared to some. We will have to wait and see. Between the portals and opt outs, there is no telling what could happen and even the bottom feeders have hope.

Getting back to the original point of the post, we’re returning a decent amount of offensive production. Let’s start with passing, which based on the conference numbers we can call our weak area

Sims, starting QB, Sophomore, returns. Yates is the returning backup. Sim’s passing numbers were third in the league, but a number of QBs ahead of him were seniors. Sims had the best statistical performance at QB for GT:

We have a ton of wide receivers returning, and new highly rated recruits at that position, but not a lot of returning “production”. Camp and Brown are gone, and Gibbs is our leading “receiver” left at running back. Tight Ends are way down the list. This is a section of the team where we’re looking for the players like Carter and Sanders to step up and new players to step in.

In rushing, Sims was a running QB this year. I don’t think that’s our intention, but it worked out that way. We have a lot of our rushing yards back in 2021. I think we’ll focus more on the running game this year, and hopefully fix the passing game. Howard is gone, but most everyone else is back.

Nothing to do with the schedule? Win 3 games again and the talk will be about nothing but the schedule. If you are just going to measure how good the team is then I am gullible but show me. Right now, I don't think we are a very good football team but more than willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. I put Tech in the bottom third until shown otherwise.
Bottom third on the field, but top third in the juice aisle!

On defense, we lose Curry, and he was our number 1 defender. He was the one defender we had to make the all-ACC list at Honorable Mention. We don’t have anyone right now who is returning with a lot of honors.

I couldn’t chart everyone, but we do have a lot of players returning off of a season that was not good on defense. Depending on how you figure it, we were either next to last, ahead of Duke, or next to last, ahead of Syracuse. Yes, we were young, and we’ll be young again. We had injuries, and hopefully we’ll have fewer. Still, Collins, Thacker, and crew have a job ahead of them.

We’ve got 3 of the highest rated recruiting classes ever in the history of GT football as opposed to the sorry level of talent we used to attract. On top of that we have brought in a bunch of top tier transfers, we might get 1 in a blue moon before. Additionally, we now run an explosive type offense designed to score instead of the sandlot scheme we used to have. Outside of Goober, we’re stocked with good coaches. Despite all that we’ve got multiple folks telling us we need 2-3 more years to win more games than we lose, people predicting 3-4 wins this year, etc. Frankly, there’s a lot of delusional people on here. There’s no way we should will less than 5 wins this season.

We have to beat Northern & Kennesaw otherwise you all are correct. We can’t beat Dook for a third win? I’ll spot you all that Clemp, the mutts, domers & tarholes are all losses. That leaves 5 games & many expect us to go 0-5 against VT (really?), da U (probably lose), BC (really?), and Pitt/Vag (toss ups).

Realistically, the over under on wins this season is 6. I’m calling 5, because of the albatross on offense is going to cost us a game. No reason we should not win 5, it’s even fairly likely we win 7.

It's hard to imagine any position group regressing. The biggest statistical contributors lost being Camp and Curry. At both positions we also get a proven P5 transfer, so we can be more confident than usual in replacing them. Our roster is getting more and more complete, progressing in physical development, knowledge, experience, and overall talent level. 2021 needs to capitalize on this enough to build momentum which is not necessarily about W/L, but looking beyond that means guys we haven't seen play yet will need to be ready. You never know how injuries will play out, but I'm optimistic we can have a good year. I think a healthy Tre and the addition of Watson paired with a much improved pass rush will yield a lot of defensive improvement if it comes to pass. Offensively, so much is still on Sims. The line can do a lot better to be more consistent, especially in run blocking.

I agree with you about the over / under. Less than 6 wins will be a very disappointing season. 6 wins and I think we are on track. 7 or more wins and "Katie bar the door!" - we might on to something...

Huh, a 43, 25 and 48th ranked class are the highest ever???? They seem right in line with where we have recruited for most of the past 20 years. So to jump ahead, yep, the 2013 class ranked 84th. We had only 14 recruits and numbers matter. But in that class, Paul Davis, Ricky Jeune, Harrison Butker, Corey Griffin, Shamire Devine. Seems like it ended up being pretty good.

If IF IF FIVE of the transfers are starting next yr there might be obvious change. Now what about STs and penalties?

I know I drink to much but if the last 2 years is an explosive offense I don't remember but 1 maybe 2 games it looked that good.
It could be with the players We have if the OL will block better. But this offense the last two has been below sandlot.

Your optimism does you credit...I just don't happen to share it. Recruiting classes mean nothing until the wins come, then I will be impressed. So, impress me, I am gullible.
