sorry if this is a re post just wanted some info on GT history.

I know we have the oldest stadium, and have won more home cfb games than any other school. We have the Heisman and bobby Dodd coach of the year award named after our coaches. We were the first team in the south to win a national championship, and we have won 4 national championships. Is there anything else that someone could tell me about our history? What divisions were we in when we won our national championships? Is there any team that has won a national championship in more than 1 power 5 conference? Have we?

We were in the old Southern conference when we won in 1917 and 1929, the SEC when we won in 1952, and the ACC when we won in 1990. Even though there was no such thing as a Power 5 conference in 1917 and 1929, the fact that we were declared national champions and even played in the Rose Bowl (1929), I would say that the Southern Conference was recognized as among the best. I would imagine that Alabama also won in more than one major (if not power 5) conference, since I assume they were in the old Southern Conference also, and, if not, certainly in whatever conference preceded the SEC.

I believe this to be factual:
First team to win the five major bowls. (Gator was major)
Highest bowl winning percentage at one time
Had the current longest winning streak in about 58'
Had 8 straight wins against the pups
Always had at least 7 out of 10 home games, even against Clemson.
And Duke hosted the Rose Bowl one year :)
Or did I dream all this?

Don't think the Gator was ever considered major, but I believe we were the first to win the four major bowls
Our long winning streak was in 51-52, but Oklahoma had a streak during that same time frame that was (I think) one game longer
Durham, NC was indeed the site of the Rose Bowl in one of the war years -- 43 or 44, I think

An interesting tidbit I heard years ago, although it is no longer valid, is that the 1956 Tech - Tenn game was considered the best college football game of all time. Sadly, Tech lost :(

Definitely the first to win the four major bowls (Rose, Orange, Cotton, Sugar).

Last time I checked, we were also one of only a handful of teams to have won 7 of the 8 traditional major games, which I think also include the Peach, Gator, Sun, and the Tangerine/Citrus/Cap One, etc. Unfortunately we were only a Peach bowl short of having won all 8, which I believe uga is the only school to have done (Rose in 42; Orange in 41; Sugar in 46; Gator in 71; Cotton in 66; Citrus in 92; Peach in 73; Sun in 64).

Aside - Gator is definitely considered one of the traditional "major" bowls - it was the sixth bowl in history and I think the first to be televised nationally. It really took a nose dive starting in 2007 when the ACC runner up became tied to the Chik bowl, and the gator resorted to third place ACC against Big East #2 (or other team from the Big 12). That led to 4 unranked teams playing in the 2008-2010 games. From 2009 to 2016, the gator has had four games between unranked opponents. Before then, the gator had only had four such games in its 63 year history.

We definitely seem to have a Peach Bowl jinx, don't we? SHEESH !!! Of course, the Cotton is no longer considered a major, having been replaced by the Fiesta, which Tech has not even played in and I don't think Georgia has either.

They haven't - hence the constant qualifier the "traditional" major bowls. I'd say there are currently 6 major bowls based on the new playoff. We still need a Peach and a Fiesta but 4/6 aint bad.

From 1950 till 1953, Tech went 29-0-2, the 2 ties being Duke ('51) and Florida ('53). Our last loss prior to the streak was 19-54 to Bama in '50 in Atlanta (OUCH). The loss that ended the streak was 14-27 at ND in '53

1917- SIAA champs, 1928- Southern Conference champs, 1952- SEC champs, 1990- ACC champs.
